Just been looking at the exhibitor list for Focus on Imaging, and Canon are not on the list.

This can't be right can it.

I seem to remember that they haven't always been there in the past (icould be wrong)

if my memory is ok I think it was approx 2yrs ago they were not there

I hadn't seen the floor plan page before, so I guess they be there.

They are listed as having 2 stands this year on the floor plan, but not on the exhibitors listing

okay is it just me or has the floor plan changed in 2 hours .. i cant find them :(

Panasonic L26 + Q23
Velmex N11

The floorplan showing on the site is dated 20/2/2011 10:47.

I'm guessing that Canon have pulled out, or had not confirmed their attendance and someone forgot to update the floorplan until they saw it under discussion here this morning.

I wonder if they will pull the picture on the home page, of a previous year's exhibition that shows a rather large Canon stand!

CPS were at BVE last week, (broadcast video expo) at earls court.

Didn't spend long on the canon stand last year anyway. Too many people queuing to try the big lenses.

lol have you not looked .. they got taken off the floor plan unless theres a 2nd floor of total canon i doubt there showing up :)

My Email
Hi there,

sorry for a pointless email there are alot of photographers abit confused about this, have canon pulled out last minute?

as they were on the site prior to 10am this morning.

Thanks

There email

Yes, Alex,

And your email is not pointless because Mrs FOCUS is here as always to answer your query personally.

This is in no way a slight on us and a great forthcoming FOCUS 2011.

On the PR front I have agreed with Canon that I will refer any queries to them.

Kind regards,

Mary

So Alex, does that mean they where there, but have now pulled out?

yeah they seem to of pulled out yesterday night / this morning

Got a few friends planning on going specifically to look at the new canon lenses, I will have to break the good news to them

Well this is exactly what I was thinking!

Look at all the people who have paid in advance to get their tickets who may have wanted to go to try out the new Canon gear such as the new 600D, 1100D and then two telephoto lenses they recently released. They should have at least gave warning!

Pull out at such "last minute" is odd as they would have paid up front substantial amounts for the stand and ancilliary 'costs'. The only savings they would be making "now" would be hotel costs and temporary staffing.

Is the UK and foreign attendees list so poor that such a major player is not showing!!!!

IMO it would be appropriate for them to make a Press Release ref the reasoning behind it???

Maybe the release will land tomorrow morning?

Agree with the cost savings, maybe there is something else behind it - Nikon have bought them out and everyone is moving to the Dark Side!

:rules: Trying to convert the "Instant Print" button into what we want and need, a "Mirror Lock-up" button instead has made them bankrupt !

Or....

The cost of world wide repairs and loss of sales due to the long running 1D mk3 focus (sic) debacle and the ongoing threat to sales from the 2/3rds systems and other equipment from newer manufacturers (Sony, Samsung, Pannasonic, Olympus et al) has necessitate the need for immediate cessation of production of all optical equipment. :cuckoo:

Or....

The rise in oil cost have made our plastic lenses too expensive to produce. Once supplies of sand have caught up, production of a new range of lenses with "Real Glass" will commence!

Apparently Canon are ringing round the journos right now (no, I'm no longer on their list).

News will break today but my guess is there will be no Canon stand. Somebody told me that Panasonic have their space.....

Panasonic and velmex are listed as L26 and N11 now.

On Amateur Photographers web site, an explanation / official statement is due later today from Canon

It's amazing that nothing in their "weeks of negotiations" involved coming up with a reason.

Now they have the rest of the day to think of something. Can't wait....

Crazy news! Would imagine they are going to struggle to fill some spaces if people are moving around to fill the big canon space.

Maybe they will give us a nice big spot to stand an wave at people :D

In a way it's not so bad because they would have more space so they will distribute evenly and so you'll probably get wider walkways to move through which should mean a more streamlined system :)

I can't imagine they will change much at this late notice...just be a few gaps I would imagine.

If they've nothing to do wih the space I vote we have a TP stand :D

I read somewhere that some divisions of Canon are feeling the heat in terms of pressure on profits, so I would imagine that their withdrawal from the show is due to a corporate clamp-down on avoidable expense.

Very disappointing, I was hoping to have the opportunity to get "hands-on" and compare the 60D & 7D

Budget for this will have been agreed and signed-off months ago, so there's more to this IMO.

Someone dropped all the sample stock?
