Canon announces EOS 7D ***Official Discussion thread***

Just picked one up from my local Jessops, they only got it in this morrning and was there only one

would you mind doing some video tests to confirm what res the live hdmi can do in video mode?

May be able to (once I work out how that works), waiting for the battery to charge now as just got it home :D

cool, would appreciate that.

how big is the 7d compared to say a nikon d300? oh and what is the lcd like, is it good enough to get focus spot on in live view?

thanks in advance

Size wise don't know how big the D300 is,but is the same as my un-gripped 40D, wont know about the screen until it's charged, but am eager to get it powered up for the first time :D

if the screen is as good as the 5dmk2 it'll be more than good enough, the reviews suggest it's actually better though in terms of viewing angle and reflection control.

Well, Battrie is now charged, screen looks very nice, and from what I see live view and focusing manualy would not be an issue, one thing that has caught my eye, under battery info it has shutter count, which on mine says zero at the moment (with an 8 Gig card in) so would say this is a record of the total shutter count which is a nice addition over my 40D.

No, if you read the manual, the shutter count is how many shots you have taken with that battery since the last time it was charged. This allows you to keep a record of whether one of your batteries is on the way out.

Ahh, souhld realy RTFM :rules:, just to keen to play :D

I'll be interested in the difference (if any either way) of the focussing speed/accuracy against a 1DMk2n. I could be in the market for one of these two very soon to compliment my 5DMk2, and Af speed will be a major attraction.

thats good to know about the screen, i'd be wanting to shoot video with it too so being able to pull focus using the lcd is important.

Just wondering if your 40D grip works with it?

Got mine this morning. Spent the afternoon playing with it (a bit) and my regular 1DsII (a lot) and so far I'm pretty impressed. AF seems very good but we'll see the accuracy when I get the pics uploaded.

Well, either this camera is so bad that no one wants to say they've bought a pup, or you lucky chaps with one are so busy taking photos that you haven't any time for posting comments???? which is it!!!:lol::lol:

have a look in animals and nature theres a few threads there with pics

Have posted some in Animals and Nature and Birds, and Grumpybadger has posted a mini review, my initial thoughts are that it is every thing it claims to be, good ISO and the AF is great.

Would someone be so kind as to upload a raw somewhere so I can see if Aperture 2 will handle them?

anyone got any ISO6400 shots with it yet?

had a chat with someone about this camera yesterday, apparently his camera club told him its not out till december. I gave him our url..

Well the 7D arrived at 11.11am and I'm waiting impatiently for the battery to charge up. :tumbleweed: Forget any idea of using your XXD batteries and charger The battery connections are different and it's a somewhat larger charger.

First impressions are of a nice soilid camera. The viewfinder is lovely and
bright. Erm... that's it for now. :D

I am so tempted to buy one CT but I would want to be able to carry on with Aperture 2 so I'd like to make sure it can cope with the raw format. Any chance you could upload one somewhere (maybe that my public share?) when you get that beast fired up so I can give it a try? :geek:

Remind me later Jon, when you see me post some test pics - hopefully.

could someone who has this camera, confirm if you can monitor the live view via the av out and/or hdmi whilst recording video?

thank you

Hi, as requested by dod a shot at ISO 6400.

No Noise Reduction and not tweaks, straight raw conversion.

Used Noiseware. No sharpening applied to any of the above.

That looks well for 6400.

What setting of Noiseware have you used on the images?

TFS

Just the default (literally says default in the drop down)as it came, not used it that much really so don't play with the settings.

ah nooooooo, that looks good :( :D

Don't fight it Doddy! ;)

OK some quick test shots. All these are full frame, straight from the RAW, with no processing at all other than resized to 800 pixels and the usual sharpening for that resize...

I did notice straight away that the images on the preview screen looked a lot darker than on all the XXD cameras I've had, and the 1DMK2n for that matter. I must say though that I've invariably lowered the levels on my images as a matter of course in most cases, but once these were on the PC screen they looked bang on the money, so the new metering system seems to be proving it's worth. Very nice natural colour too.

I'm not keen on the shutter sound - I havent made up my mind yet whether it's noisier than the 50D or just different.

I'm very impressed so far, the camera seems to be everything that's claimed for it, but a lot more testing needs to be done over the next week or two. It's a very complex camera - the AF system particularly, so there's no getting away from having to RTFM to get the best out of it. :gag:

Some wonderful images coming through! Please keep them coming.

Anyone willing to show colour accuracy with flash and reds?

CT,

Silent shutter us on by default. Try switching that off and see if the shutter sounds better.

Gord.

Bloddy Hell - I hope I've not been using the silent version! :D

Off to check.
