Canon announces EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II

More money draining from the school fund........

Hope its a bit lighter than the current one and guessing it will be at least £1500.....

Yup it's official Canon's R&D guys are retards, Why didnt they give me the 24-70mm F2.8 IS instead of a 'remake'

*sigh*
Im only just looking to get a mk1,and this shows up!
/me starts rattling the penny jar *Come on...i KNOW there's more in there!*

good god the best is about to get better - didn't think it would happen - especially with the 24-70 needing a revamp

It'll be a lot of money. The new lenses coming out of Canon and Nikon seem to be a great excuse to boost the price too.

Agreed, very few 'upgrades' for big price differences. Bottom Line boosters!

What do people think about the rumours about the 24-70 getting IS ? I am hoping to buy one this year, and this is making me hold on.....

Canonrumours.com has been awash with rumours of this lens for the last few months. They had patent application documents that may suggest it is on it's way.

Anyone else fancy a bank robbery? :D

SRP on the Mark I is £2239.99 and presume the new lens is offered at SRP for pre-order - normally the way. So we can probably expect it to be 25% more than the outgoing one once the initial rush has settled...

canon have totally lost touch with their pricing :cuckoo:

They both have. I don't know why you are selecting Canon when Nikon have launched a TC for £450 and the new 300/2.8 is £5099 (!!!) on Warehouse Express

Prices will drop on new stuff when its been out a while but they are both at the same game at the moment...

ouch!! Haven't been paying attention to new prices

The price of this lens is a joke. Almost 3 grand for a 70-200? I don't care how good it is.

Well im glad this doesn't bother me.... im perfectly happy with my 70-200 non IS thank you very much

The initial retail price will always be high to cream off the early adopters and companies working in the industry. Remember how the 7D and 5D mk2 feel in prices after a few months.

I was hoping they would release one lighter in weight and in black.

the pricing is really ridiculous...i can see a lot of people sticking to mk1's and 2nd hand....

100mm L went down 20% a month later, 7D about 25%. Let's say it will go for 2.0k at some point at the end of the summer. Now that has 2 consequences to me: 1) I will most likely have to forget about 24-70mm f/2.8 IS (likely at £2k MSRP); 2) 70-200mm f/2.8 non-IS or mk1 would make me far happier than a week ago, provided I get a good copy.

It's the best of the best, remember you have also the:

70-200 F4
70-200 F4 IS
70-200 F2.8

and...
70-300 IS
70-300 DO IS
55-200 IS

etc.. etc...

You pay the price you get what you need, not everyone will need 4-stop IS, even better IQ than the existing one..and those people wont buy it!

Did not expect it - well Nikon just announced theirs - so I am sure Canon would do the same - The war continues:lol:

I am at this moment trying to prize out of the hands of a friend his Nikkor 70 - 200 f2.8 VR - version 1:thumbsdown: :lol: He knows he needs the VR2:thumbs:

Waiting in the wings boys - waiting in the wings:naughty:
