Canon announce a 250MP sensor - sugar!!

I've seen that elsewhere over the last couple of days and they were quoting 250mb file sizes!
 
I'm certain this story has been announced before so what's going on? Maybe a rather desperate attempt to grab some headlines?

I've no doubt that they are working on high MP sensors, every major manufacturer probably is and it's possibly a question of when rather than if unless some disruptive technology comes along... and all the big players are probably working on something new too.

Personally I'm about as excited over this announcement as was about choosing my socks this morning but it's job done by Canon, they grabbed some headlines.

Although this thread is a couple of days late I think it is still a fresh announcement within the last week. Perhaps you're thinking about the 4million ISO camera announced earlier in the year?

It will be interesting to see how the tech trickles down to consumer models but agree it's nothing to get too excited over, I certainly don't need any bigger files to be messing with!

My God was that really 5 years ago? seems like last week.

Just read that they announced they were doing a 50mp 8 years ago so maybe I was doing Canon a disservice? :D

I would think that it's probably relatively easy to build whatever size (in MP terms) sensor you want to but making them small enough (physically) and reliable enough (in terms of few dead/hot pixels) is rather harder.
 
I read that this sensor ws only going to be used in satelites and surveillance situations. One day though tit'll be the norm I expect.
 
250mp and probably still only 12ev DR knowing canon :sneaky:
