Can anyone tell me if this finder will fit straight on a 40d, or does it need one of the adapters.

From what I've read the Angle Finder 'B' should have been originally supplied with adaptors to fit various Canon camera eyepiece types (as is the Angle Finder 'C').

It does come with one adapter, I think.

I know someone who has one and it fits straight on a 10d, so, I take it, it fits the 40d.

Mick,

It will fit the 40D if it fits the 20D....this means that the adapter is already installed....an EDII and is probably marked as such.

Bob, it is the 10d my friend has and it goes on without the adapter.......I think.

Mick...not trying to sound "know it all" but it definately needs an adapter.
If you look at Gofer's mediapoland link and then open the .zip link you'll see the way it works. The base unit terminates in a simple round end (as used on early Canon film bodies). To this is attached the square adapter for the later style Canon body eyepieces.

The later type C has a square end and the eyepiece adapters slide onto a plate on the end which is secured by four screws.....I have mine in front of me now.

Back to your friend's finder....it must already have the adapter mounted and will therefore work on your 40D

Just to say, that, I've got the 'B' finder today and it does fit straight on my 40d.

I actually got it on ebay for £26. I think that's dirt cheap for the quality.

Very much a bargain Mick...you'd be lucky to get the C model for under £100.

Bob

Yes, you're right Bob, I saw one go for about that.

I actually don't want the 2.5x magnification so went for the 'B'

I photographed sand Martins last year and the camera was only 2 inches off the river so I struggled to set it up. I've done the same with the Kingfisher too.

Mick,

If you intend to do a lot of low angle shooting it might pay you to look at a Zigview S2. It's a small camera that clips onto the viewfinder and then feeds the image to an LCD screen...either directly coupled and angled or via a cable. It can even motion trigger the body to take a shot when a contrast change is detected in the viewfinder.

Bob

Cheer's Bob, I've seen those things and don't fancy it to be honest.

I also won't use it often enough to justify buying anything fancy.

Id love a zigview! Something to invest in for the future i think.
Slightly off topic, has anyone ever used a cheap HK angle finder?
