Hello and first post.

After some advice please, I was looking at an EOS 650D today but left it to do some more research. Been looking online tonight and it seems the EOS 1100D will do everything a newbie will require and I'll save a few ££'s.

Question is, will this be ok or will I need to upgrade a few months down the line, I'll be using the camera for general family pics, outdoors and motorsport.

Having had Canon camera's in the past and an old EOS 300 film I'd like to stick to the brand.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Upgrading is almost a disease, what if you buy the 650D and then want to upgrade?

An 1100D should do all you need and only you will know if that is good enough in 12 months time depending on where it takes you. You can also get an 1100D for under £200 and even in 12 months I would imagine it would still sell for £120 so £80 for 12 months use looks like a cheap hobby to me...

If you can live without video and the tilting screen - get a used 40d.

The xxd bodies are so much better built and quicker to use. And the 40d is probably the best value Canon you can get your hands on, priced between the 100d and 650d, in use it'll beat them hands down.

As usual I didn't worry too much about cash and just ended up buying what I wanted which was the 650d :)

If you want to get the best bang for your buck then I guess it probably isn't the one for you but it's definitely a nice camera. The extra megapixels can help you out when your lens collection is a little lacking as you can afford to crop in a lot more before quality deteriorates too much.

You sound like you're fairly into photography given your history with Canons and the EOS 300, so I'd recommend either the 40D or 650D depending on need for video and if you want any spare money for extra lenses?

Like most things in life, get the best you can afford.

+1 for this advice. When I started I got a 550D and it was still getting some use around 2 years later, despite having a 5D2 and a 7D. I only sold it when I got a 650D for the wife, who was using the 550D all the time at that point.

The 650D is a fantastic camera for the price, have a look at Hdew cameras as they have the body only at £400 at the moment. The wife hardly lets me get a touch of the 650D, but it's very easy to use, and get used to, whenever I get the chance.

ive got the 650d and its a fab bit of kit (im not saying the others arent) theres many pros forthe 650d overthe 1100d, it all depends on what you are going to be using it for etc....

i started with the 1000d and have recently gone to 650d which is really user friendly etc, im so happy with the 650d, im unlikely now to upgrade to a full frame
