Ok so I purchased a Canon Powershot A630 about a month ago. I've looked through the manual but have not found teh answer to my problem. My question is: When I push the shutterbutton all the way down quickly the camera will not take the picture. Is there a way to change this so when I do press it quickly then the camera will take the shot?

This is not a big problem but sometimes I will miss a shot due to this. (I know the camera has contious shooting but sometimes I'm just looking for a snapshot and so I'm using the flash. (Which would kill the continuous shooting rate.)

Thanks for all help, it is appreciated.

I used to have a Minolta Z3 and suffered the same problems. When I was buying my SLR the sales guys always said with a SLR you don't suffer the shutter lag which you normally experience with digital.

It's normal afaik. You HAVE to half press most digital cameras to get focus, then full press to shoot.

Welcome to the forums :)

Don't know that model but the most likely explanation is that the camera needs the 'lag' time to focus. The glass elements in the lens have to actually move to get the image in focus on the sensor - until then it is not in focus so it won't let you take the shot.

The normal way round it is to half press the shutter button whilst aiming at the target. This will make the camera focus for when you take the shot by pressing the rest of the way.

You could switch it to manual focus and set the distance to the target yourself - then it will work as you asked...but you risk out of focus pictures if you got it wrong.

Using flash means it is probably dark and therefore harder for the camera to focus - which makes the delay longer.

Prob be 3 more replies by the time I've typed this lot :)

Thanks Robert, you answered my question exactly (with using manual focus). As for half pressing for focus and exposure lock I had that knowledge but for some reason I though that I could just press the button and it would go through the process of focusing and all that jazz automatically. :cuckoo:

Haha, I do appreciate the very quick replies from everyone!
