I'm looking at buying a new Canon 85mm f/1.8 II at the minute, seems to be around the £300 mark. I use a 5D Mk1.

The 85mm f/1.2 is way outta my league money wise, although an 'L' version, nice glass ok.

Does anyone own a Canon 85mm f/1.8 II as I would appreciate any comments/views/experience regards it's performance etc.

Thanks in advance.

Seems to stack up pretty well actually

Yeah, great lens. i just picked one up to compliment my 85L and am loving the speed it focuses at. Only going to use my L for modelling pics now.

For the money the F1.8 version is outstanding... there is a reason though why the L version costs so much more, and having owned the F1.8 and used the L
the difference in low light performance is amazing... and Bokeh to die for - I fell in love with the L version its right at the top of the food chain of Canon Lenses
having said that the non L is still a great performer with a very fast autofocus so buy what you can afford and enjoy it

I know the Canon 85mm f/1.8 is around £300 ish, I've found a new/boxed Canon 85mm f/1.2 with a receipt etc for £600, seems too cheap don't ya think?

Advice please....

I think if it's genuine go for it. That's a great price. Careful it's not a scam though.

it is a great lens but if you can stretch then get the sigma 85mm 1.4 instead as it's even better! search mine or cuthberts threads on this lens to see some good samples

i've had both and much prefer the sigma

Firstly there is no II (probably confused with cheap 50mm). And it is a great lens. Very sharp on FF, and focuses fast.

Er, its very sharp on anything!

But yes, its corners are sharp even on FF.

is it wrong that i find him really quite amusing?

He is, I watch his videos more for the comedy value rather than the reviews!

 at slight semi.
