I have a Canon 70D and was thinking of upgrading to one of the above.
It would be mainly used for bird photography.

Any thoughts on which would be best?

Thanks

The 80D will probably be the better option if your a fan of the waiting game with focus pre-set.

The 7D is a lot faster so superb for sports or fast moving wildlife. It's also weather sealed for when it inevitably throws it down but the sensor is marginally worse for noise than the 80D which is a sore point.

I personally would go 7Dii purely because of weather sealing and the facility to shoot other things that the 80D although good at falls behind with. The step up in speed from a 70D to the 7Dii is huge where as the step to the 80D isn't as noticeable.

80D has a lovely touch moving screen where as the 7D is fixed however the viewfinder on the 7D is a beast. Massive and bright and puts the 80D to shame which by most standards is also a great viewfinder to begin with. The facility to use mental quick CF is also advantageous.

Thanks Andrew, I went from a 7D to the 70D for the better ISO.
To be honest I have never really used the moveable screen, so the fixed screen would not be an issue.

No focus pre-set for me, as l walk and take pictures on the move.

Image quality wise, you will find it difficult to see the difference in the images created by the 3 cameras you mention.

Having two 7Dmk2 ,one 7d in house I went for the 80D the dynamic range is the clincher and also the fact that you can shoot virtually noise free pics up to 6400iso . .plenty of example shots in the bird section and the 80D thread ,never had a problem with a.f on it either and it's far less complicated than the mk2

What is it about the 70D that's making you think about an upgrade? The 70D is a very capable camera, so understanding why it's not cutting the mustard *for you* would help.

Just getting upgradeitus I suppose, been nearly 3 years with the 70D.
As I use the Sigma 150-600mm, so I need to use fairly high ISO, just thought the newer cameras would be better for this?

i have the 7d2 with sigma 150-600c I don't have any probs with bif or static images. i find it handles higher iso very well
