Canon 7D

I've been looking at prices for the 7D body and have found that 2 suppliers are retailing this product for under £700. I cannot understand why there is such a large price difference for the same 'box' contents. I have e-mailed the company who have replied that it is a genuine, new product.

Would anyone have any ideas why this would be - I don't want to get stung but at the same time saving some £300 is quite beneficial

If its under £ 700 it will a grey import, so it will be a genuine 7D, but probably for the Asian Market. The camera may come with the wrong instruction manual and power lead although many grey importers will change that before they ship.

You won't have a valid warranty in Europe. You will either have to send the camera back to where it comes from, or the trader (if they still exist by then) may choose to re-imburse you after having it repaired in the UK.

You should also find out if that price includes all UK duties and taxes paid as you don't want an invoice to arrive for customs duty and VAT.

Both have poor reputation on this forum, but use the search and decide for yourself.

I've never seen a bad review of OSD.

Hi April,

I am also looking to purchase a 7d camera, but I think I am going to purchase it with 18-135 lens. (would like 24-105 L Lens, but alas cannot afford ). Have considered grey import as prices are considerably cheaper, but have decided against them. I know Canon are possibly introducing new cameras next week, I believe 70d is rumoured this time round with 7D upgrade/replacement later in the year, but this is rumour only at moment from the web. Maybe price will drop a little more yet. Don't know what other forum users think?.

I bought my 7D from HDEW excellent service and got a UK reciept so warranty is UK based
The 7D is an absolute bargain at the moment
When we get a new model it will be a lot more expensive , think the current one was £1700 when it came out

thanks - that's useful to know. I have also found one stop digital are offering the 7d at a very competitive price but doesn't state what the 'box' contents are. I have tried to e-mail them but it just bounces back.
