Canon 7D vs Canon 60D

lol yeah, tell me about it :D ive pulling my hair out trying to figure out what i should get :D

My main thinking is if i wanted the crop factor back then i could use an extender but then i thought whats the point in buying fast lenses if im gonna lose a stop of it just by putting an extender on (or 2 stops for 2x). But, if i got a 7D or a 60D, because ive wanted the 5D for ages they would just leave me thinking about the 5D, screw it im confused again lol :D

Go with the better... Because in a year or so's time you'll just be back at this point wanting a 5D2 if you went for the 60D or 7D.

At least if you buy the 5D2 now, and you find in a year you want a 7D or a 60D, you'll need to spend less money to get it and also the 7D2 will be out by then ;)

If you primarily take photos of something moving, get the 7D. If static, the 5D2. I think the 5D3 (which I will upgrade to at some point) will be the holy grail of great autofocus and full frame sensor in the same package.

Yeah it will primarily be static but will it (5D II that is) cope with the odd round of BTCC?

Just realised how daft that question sounds lol course it will cope :D you know what I mean though!

Yes, but the proportion of keepers may be higher on the 7D depending on depth of field at the distance you are shooting and speed of the cars moving towards you...

If you want the best image, 5D2. If you want/need great autofocus on moving ovbjects (the 7D has a processor completely dedicated to it) get the 7D.

b****r. Another quandary :D

I'd say 90% if not more of my images will be static, or at least not moving fast. I'll only be going to two rounds of the BTCC and one of them i'll be using my 50D anyway. So i reckon i'll still be fine with the 5D II.

Cheers fella, makes it a lot more simple when you can see what camera is best for certain subjects.

The 5D2 has a similar autofocus system to the 50D (except I think the 50D has 9 cross type, whilst the 5D2 is only cross type in the centre). The 5D2 also has 6 invisible sensors that help in AI Servo mode. If you are happy with centre focus point, the 5D2 will be as good, if not better than the 50D.

The 7D is the better camera but it just doesn't feel right in my hands so I went with the 60D. 60D felt like it was made for my hands.

Ive read a bit about the AF system, the 7D's sounds like the bomb but full frame means more to me than AF (at least right now anyway). Ill defo leave the door open to get a 7D in the future though. I quite like the 50D's AF tbh, but im glad the 5D2 has better AI servo, that'll come in handy for the BTCC. Other than motorsport (which wont be very often, im not exactly on a high income lol) i wont be using AF anyway but it will be nice to know its good when i do need it.

Cheers again, youve been a great help.
