Canon 7d - Strange Firmware and Factory Menu.

All those with a Canon 7d - when plugging into Windows 7 x64, what does the device appear as?

I have just bought a new 7d and when I connect it to the PC it comes up as:

FactoryConnect, see image below.

I cannot pull any images off the camera, however, when the CF is in the PC directly it works fine.

Any suggestions would be great!
 
Also just spotted that there is a factory menu and it also has firmware versio 5.1.6 7D.7C.4C

I'm guessing that it must have some sort of service firmware on it?!
 
Not sure if a 32bit OS makes any difference Mark but mine shows up as Canon 7D

I tried it on a 32bit laptop and it comes up the same :(

I've done that, it goes straight back to version 5.1.6 7D.7C.4C when it restarts.
 
I would get in touch with Canon.
 
All boxed up and ready to be returned to Jacobs tomorrow!
 
Hi,

I've just bought Canon 6D and have very similar situation.
My firmware is 5.7.4 78(1f) and its not updateable, any of my pcs cant recognized my camera.

Can you please tell me what did you do and what canon did for you?

When I spoke to Canon they said they'd sort it. However I never sent it back to them as the issue never really bothered me that much.

Give Elstree a call. They'll sort it out for you!

I assume it's still under warranty?

The camera is still under warranty but I dont really want to send it back to the seller because I bought it in Hongkong and it would take a long time to get it back.

Did you buy your camera in Europe? What guys in canon told you? Why did cannon supplied a camera with factory firmware and factory menu? Who is Elstree?

I m sorry for bombarding you with all those questions but I spent so much money on the camera and I am worried that it could be faulty or serviced already.

You are better of using a card reader to transfer your images to your computer.

What about this strange 5.7.4 78 (1f) not updatable firmware?

I think there is an issue with the soft?
