Canon 7D or 1D Mark III???

Looking for a budget second camera for some sports stuff I'm going to be doing soon.
I've managed to whittle my choices down to either the 7D or the 1D Mark III.
My budget is around £300-£400 which both camera's fall within. I know the 7D has the advantage of MP's but that's never been a massive drawing point for me.
Any advice/suggestions would be very welcome before I start searching for the chosen candidate.

1D3 in my opinion, it's designed for the job. Megapixels are not everything. Mind you I'm biased as I have a minty 1D3 for sale lol

On an aside the 1D3 image quality is superb, it may not have all the more modern features of the 7D but it is a pro series body. The frame rate and tracking ability will still outshine a 7D that was really designed as an intermediate model.
 
I've had a 7d for a few years now but wanted to get a second body, managed to get hold of a 1d3 in excellent condition and really like it, not had it very long so still learning how to use it.
 
7D has modern layout to controls and so does the 1D3 but the 1D3 is more controlable from within the menu system.

The other thing thats in favour of the 1D3 is it's 2 card slot system so you can shoot raw to one and jpegs to the other or just use them in sequence.
 
Cheers guys. It's going to be a mixture of birds, motorsports and some skydivers landing trying to do precision landing (when most of the funny incidents happen)

Is your 1D3 outwith of my budget range? I can't see it in the "For Sale" forum.
 
I had a 7D for many years and took the plunge to 1D ownership. I tried a 1D3 for a couple of weeks, but I didn't like the low res screen - I couldn't tell if the photos was 100% nailed or not, whereas the high res screen of the 7D means I was working with more confidence. Back on the computer I found the 1D3 had nailed most of the shots, so I was worrying needlessly, but it does make to wonder whilst you are working. In the end I went for a 1D4.

The 7D has higher pixel density, better cropping ability.

You won't be disappointed with either. The 7D uses same batteries as your 5D2 I think.

Yeah would love a 1d4 (which will be saved for). Yes the 7d does use the same batteries as the 5d2 so billy bonus there but I think I'm swayed a bit more towards the pro body of the 1D3. Plus it'll get me used to the set up and styling for the upgrade to the four hopefully.
