I've got a 1D MKIIn and although I love it and it's served me well, I'm thinking of replacing it. I've got a 70D as a second body and it's ok, but the autofocus does miss things as there's no autofocus expansion, so I'm looking at my options for a replacement of my 1D. Don't want to go full frame but have become a fan of the 1.3x crop factor. Price wise I can get a used 1D MKIV for about the same price as the 7D MKII new. Just thinking about people's thoughts on what they would get
 
I have went through most of the 1D variations and would recommend the 1 D MK IV,you will notice the big jump from the MkIIN.Just a pity you don't live close by as i have a MK IV you could try out.
 
I've used both and in my mind there is no question 1D mkiv
 
Tough choice.
I've had them both at different times. I sold my 7D MkII because I didn't feel it had the high ISO capability I was after and in this regard I think the MKIV was better. The MkIV build quality was better also. Remember it was Canons top pro camera until the 1DX came along.

Some have owned and used both and prefer the MKIV. Some the MkII. If I had the choice now I think I would have to go for the 7D MKII as its AF is better overall taking everything into account.

If, however, you are expecting to be shooting at ISO 3200 + then the 7D may not be for you. I'm sure that people can post high ISO images and say they are happy with them. Perhaps they are, but as far as wildlife was concerned the loss of detail at higher ISO was just too much.
 
Thanks for the replies, I was leaning towards the 1D because I still like the 1.3 crop and my MKII never really misses a beat, that interesting about the autofocus system because on the 7D MKII, as you can see, a split decision so far on which way to go. The 1D MKII always worked for me, but the MKIIs ISO capability is a decade old, batteries are starting to loose their charge and even with my prime lenses it struggles in poor light, hence its definitely time for upgrade and not convinced the 80D the way to go.
