I am sure quiet a few on here have or have had a 7D.

I have heard that it wasn't so great at higher ISO.

What ISO did it start to fall apart?

Any examples good or bad?

This thread will surely open up the usual can of worms!

I'm not in a position to post examples right now, but providing you expose to the right, there is no reason why your shots should be anything but clean as a whistle at ISO 1600 or above. Processing is also a factor and the best tip here I can give is to apply luminance noise reduction, or any other noise reduction process before sharpening.

I've found with mine that dialling in +1/3 ev makes things a lot more manageable, saying that i'm not confident at anything much over 800 but...and heres a big but, i'm far from a seasoned photographer and don't use any special noise reduction programmes just LR.
The worst for noise i've found is when lightening shadows, hence the +1/3

Martyn is quite right. I also use exposure comp. as a permanent feature of shooting with my 7D. I usually have +2/3 dialled in.

It is a hotly debated subject, and often views at either end of the spectrum, while not reaching the giddy heights of clean high ISO of the 5D MKIII or 1DX, I'm quite comfortable shooting at ISO 1600, occasionally above, I think to keep things under control, you need to nail the exposure.

Here's one shot at ISO 2000 on a 7D

I hear many say its not good at high ISO BUT I think its all about knoing your camera and how to use it.
I done some test and you can see some images I shot at 12800ISO yes top ISO it has I think this might give you an idea .

I not say this is 100% top IQ but for 12800 ISO it might give you an idea at lower ISO. by the way its full size 5184 x 3456 pixels
This was taking on 7D hand held ISO 12800 f/2.8 1/50 RAW file into ACR 8.3 opened in PC CS6 and saved as jpg NO other software used.

Yes as Martyn said I use normally plus 2/3 exp comp and up to ISO 800 I don't need to do any noise reduction
Just expose to the right as far as you can then dial the exposure back abit in Lightroom
At this time of year 800 is my default ISO setting and am very happy with the results
:)
