Hello.

I'm sure the Canon 70D has been discussed here before, but with me being new around here I was hoping you guys wouldn't mind me starting a thread regarding this Canon camera...

I've had a Canon 20D from new and quite soon after its first release, but I've thought about upgrading for the past year, roughly, but having heard about many people suffering with "soft focus" issues with the 70D, I'm not sure whether to take the plunge or not. I've read quite a few things about this on a fair few different websites; some conclusions haven't helped I must say. But the general consensus seems to be that the faster the lens the more trouble you're likely to have. My fastest lens has an aperture of f3.5 and I mainly shoot fast moving aircraft, Motorsport and trains, in decent, bright (or better) light. Of course that suggests that I would probably be alright using a Canon 70D for such photography, but is there anyone out there that might be able to humour me and put my mind to rest, one way or another?

I'd love to hear from any of you that own a 70D and who could pass on their experiences with this camera and what I need to, or not need to, worry about.

I appreciate this may seem like an open-ended and slightly daft question, but I hope you see where I'm coming from. I don't want to make an £700+ mistake.

Genuinely, many thanks.

Simon

I've had my 70D for a little over 12 months - a replacement for my 50D. My lenses are 17-55mm F2.8, 24mm STM F2.8 and a 70-300L. I'm delighted with my kit and haven't experienced any "soft focus" issues as mentioned in your original post. My photography is mainly motorsport, with some family/holiday related.

Thank you for your replies...

It looks like I've left it too late to order on line as I wanted to have an 70D for the weekend (Duxford 'Flying Legends') so it looks like I'll have to cough up a little extra at Jessops...

Fingers crossed I won't have any issues!

Top avatar Simon. I assume the 47 in your username is for Swiftsure?

I am still looking to upgrade from a 450D to a 70D, but ever since I got a Canon G7X compact I seem to take that out more, so unsure what to do now.

I bought mine from here, was as described and am very happy with it! There's 1 going in classifieds at the moment for £475! Big saving on brand new!

Depending on where you were thinking of ordering from, Jessops do price match - but not to imports grey though.

Have a look at WEX, Calumet etc and see which one is the best price and see if Jessops will match it ?
