I have a canon 70D which I have been pretty happy with for a number of years. Last night the flip out LCD screen stopped working. It seems to brighten up when I turn on the camera but does not display the various screens when pressing info to cycle through.

Has anybody else had such a failure? Otherwise the camera seems to be working. I still went out this morning and shot sunrise, I'll find out when I try and download tomorrow at home if there is a bigger problem!

Any experiences out there?

We live overseas and there is no canon service available in our country of residence. I will be in the UK in early June luckily and can get it sent back to the uk canon service centre in advance and collect it whilst back. Any experience if this is likely to be a majorly expensive repair, or terminal?

Any advice appreciated!

Thanks

Alan

I am no expert at all. Still shooting on auto after 2 years but I have this camera and find it to be very temperamental. Last week I had the opposite problem to you. I could only see things in the lcd screen, couldn’t see through the viewfinder at all and the camera seemed to stick when taking single shotscoming up with something about the video, which I couldn’t understand. After about 2 hours fiddling and going through the settings to no avail, I found that the little switch above the video/camera button had stuck in the middle. Once I managed to move it to the camera icon, the viewfinder started to work again. I’m not saying it is the same thing but something might be stuck in not quite the right position.

Thanks Ldutch, I admit I've generally found it to be reliable over the last few years, but I have has a few head scratching moments where I have inadvertently flipped that switch to video and wondered why the viewfinder was not working.

I found a repair shop here who deal in Canon and they say it is an interna cable issue, hopefully picking up tomorrow.
