canon 70D and DPP

I have had several Canon DSLRs in the past and have always used DPP as my RAW editor. Since upgrading to the 70D very recently, I am now finding that there is an (increased) delay before the software completes its "generating a high quality preview" operation and the image appearing on screen in its editable form. On average, I am seeing delays of between 4 and 5 seconds per image. If it were simply a case of waiting a few seconds before being able to edit, then that would be fine but often I will open batches of 5 or more RAW images in DPP with the intention of quickly running through the images to see which are sharp and which are not. Delays of 4 or 5 seconds in this scenario are unacceptable.
My PC is around 3 years old and I am running An I-5 2400 with 8Gb RAM. Windows 7, 64 bit.
Would anyone know with any degree of certainty whether it's a case of more RAM needed or if I now need to upgrade to a faster processor?

I don't use DPP as my raw developer, but I just did a quick test (using DPP 3.13.20.0)
My system is similar spec to yours except I have an AMD quad core processor, but running Windows 7 64-bit and with 8GB RAM and an ATI R7 250 graphics card.
Opening a single 70D raw image I get "Generating high quality preview" displayed for about 6-7 seconds.
I'd get bored very rapidly if it did that every time.
For comparison, in Lightroom when entering the "Develop" module from "Library" the image is fully rendered within about 1 second, and even zooming in, the image is fully sharp within 2 seconds.

I have just checked one of my raw images and it took about one second to load on my Mac Retina, but bearing in mind the image is 5184x3456 from my 7D. Have you considered the size of your raw images from the 70D compared with your previous cameras?

The 70D raw files are a little larger, 5472 x 3648 and vary between about 21MB and 27MB in size.

I have a number of 5184 x 3456 files in my raw folder which are 29.9 MB. My point was that if the OP's new camera has much larger raw files, then that could be the reason for the lag in DPP.

I use DPP for for 95% of my raw conversions and find it very good for images taken with Canon bodies.

Many thanks for all replies so far. I have recently upgraded from a 50d to a 70d and had noticed the increase in average file size. Alan - do you mind me asking the processor speed and how much RAM in your Mac? Many thanks.
