Hi everyone just need a little advice about Canon crop cameras and what you feel would be a suitable upgrade for me.
I take snaps mostly of grandkids, people. birds etc, and at the moment I am trying to have a go at landscapes.
I have the chance to upgrade but really not sure what is the best option. I did look at the 7d but don't see a huge difference.
Would the 70D be a better choice or is there something better.
Open to any suggestions
Cathy

I think the 70d is the best Canon crop camera at the moment.

What lens or lenses do you own? If you're still using the kit lens, a faster (focusing speed and aperture) lens like the Canon 17-55mm f2.8 would probably give a bigger improvement than a body upgrade.

same choice i am facing and i have looked hard at the 70d it does seem a good upgrade. or do i weight for the 7d mk2 to appear. i am quite happy to wait for a bit longer but if it is not here by mid 2014 then its a 70d for me

Wide angle lens such as the Canon 10-22 or Sigma 10-20 would be my priority over a new body if you are giving landscapes a go

Not used one, but the Canon 15-85mm gets good reports, could be a handy all rounder and would be a better upgrade than a new body.

i made two changes with my 550d i got a sigma 17-70 and a 70-200L f4 and it made a lot of difference to my images

Yes definitely agree go for lenses the 550D is a very good camera
I use mine together with a 7D
Don't know what lenses you have already but I use the Tamron 17-50 and the Canon 70-200F4 L these would make a bigger difference to your photography than a new body:)

It's all about the glass, ie lenses. The body is just a control system attached to the the end. In my opinion.

Between the 70D and 7D, both good but I have chosen the 70D after lots of research.

Now this is good of you all thank you!
I think you are all right I will have a look at the lenses first as I only have my kit lens, the nifty 50 and Tamron 70-200.

Having had a 10-22mm for a couple of years I can assure the OP that it's a marvellous bit of kit, but it's tricky to get used to, so give it a chance. It's a great landscape lens.

Have to be honest with you if its mainly still images then you will not see barely any improvements on still image quality, video is very far improeved but still images, not so much if any

I had a 550D and the biggest improvement was when I bought a Canon 17-55 f/2.8 lens. I upgraded to a Canon 70D but mainly for AF/burst rather than IQ. There's not a lot in it up to 800 ISO between the 550D and 70D.

Hi, slightly similar question to OP, and not trying to hijack the thread, but I have a 500d and mainly use i for my sons Football team pics (under 8's).

I have a 70-300 IS USM zoom and a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 and was wondering if the 70D would be a step up (I was mainly thinking of the 7fps)

cheers
