Canon 70-210 USM - Worth paying £160?

I've heard great things about this lens (and missed one on here for a bargin price:bang: recently).

Ive seen one S/H for £160. Has anyone used one? Are they really as good as Ive been lead to believe?

A lovely lens but certainly not worth paying £160 for, especially 2nd hand. £100 max.

If you are looking for a zoom that covers that range why not look at the 55-250mm which has the added benefit of IS.

Because the 70-210 is better from the brief test I did with the 55-250.

Are you talking about the fixed f4 version? Price should be £60-100. The variable aperture one seems to sell for a bit more, say up to £130.

I assumed it was that one as I'd forgotten about the F4 version. Is the one you're looking at in Portugal? There is another one in a normal ebay listing number 250795260963 that might be worth lookiing at.

I will indeed. From what I can gather, despite it being an old model, the image quality is very good.

if you're planning to use it with your 5d - don't bother. it's awful on FF. I was using it frequently with my 350d and 450d with great results but when I put it on my 5d mkII, it's just awful. soft and even when i close the aperture to f/8 or more, there is not much difference. on crop it will be great. I've it tried on my friend 20d and all the photos were much sharper than on my 5d.

The 55-250 IS is far better on a crop.

Just bought one off ebay this second

If it really is as bad as you say it can just go on my 30D crop sensor.
