Canon 70-200mm L IS with 2x converter, does it work ?

yup, works nicely..
have a look on my website and most of the distance shots from 2011 were with that combo.
however i just dumped it for a sigma 120-300mm and its a vast improvement

Is this the 2.8?

I have the Mk1, works fine and it's sometimes what I have with a 2x convertor for lightness or versatility. However I tend to use my 100-400 more as I thinks it's just slightly better. I just bought a bigger backpack.

Doh should have said, yea it's the 2.8is, it was either that or the 100-400mm mainly for Motorsport but I thought I would get more general use from the 70-200. It doesn't seem to get good reports with the 2x on it so just wanted to know off people who have used it !

for what its worth, the one i was using was non IS though.

I'll say yes, the AF is not really fast though, i basically use the 70-200 2.8IS (mk1) with the 2x (mk2) in my motorsport photography since 2008

Yea that's what I Have, if I track the bikes as soon as I can it should be ok then. You got any example shots mate ?

i've had 3 of them altogether, using combos of 1.4x and 2.0x (and even both at the same time once, but never again :) )
I always found it a bit soft with the 1.4 and softer with the 2x.. i thought that was just normal because of the TC, but i'm using the sigma with both those converters and its way sharper.

you can have a look on my flickr page on my signature...exif are generally left on the image so you should be able to figure it out which ones are done with that setup...don't do many bikes though...

All shots in THIS gallery were with Canon's 70-200 2.8 IS mk2 with the Canon mk3 2x extender.
