I currently own an exceptionally sharp Canon 70-200 F/4 L lens but would like to move up to an IS version.

However, I cant make my mind up whether to go for the F/4 IS version or the F/2.8 version 1 Lens. Buying used of course but looking at prices there is only a couple of hundred pounds difference.

There have been times over the past year where the F/4 of my current non IS 70-200mm has been somewhat limiting hence me looking at a F2.8 IS version

Has anyone on here made a similar move and would like to share their thoughts/experiences !!

Regards
Bob

I think you answered your own question. The 70-200 IS f/2.8 mk1 is a great lens by all accounts, and if you need the larger aperture, you've got to go for it!

I have owned both F4 Lenses and the Low light of F2.8 was what I was always hankering after.. so I bought a MK1 IS version and the sharpness is about the same but I can now shoot indoors a lot more

the F4 lenses are great but the extra stop of light makes a big difference -and I would be interested to see how many have the F2.8 version who have swapped back to F4

I am sure the smaller size would attract some back but for me I will be sticking with the F2.8

Thanks Guys your input was much appreciated.

I am still looking for an F/2.8 and Daz I will keep you in mind
