Im thinking of buying myself one next week. The non IS version.
Anyone got one?, whats the quality like, would you recommend one?

I think I'm about the only person who doesn't like them. I had the IS version but took it back after a couple of days. The copy I had needed calibration but I just didn't get along with it. I used to have the f/4 non-IS and that was fantastic. The f/2.8IS just didn't feel right somehow

Maybe worth handling one first just to be sure?

I have the IS version and its superb, the none IS version is lighter, sharper but not weather sealed.

I had one, sharp enough, quick enough and comfortable enough.

I have the non IS version and love this lens. It is the one I use most of the time and it is brilliant!

Awesome lens.

I'm probably going to upgrade mine when I have more money though, need the weather sealing and IS.

Cheers Guys, i think ill look out for one:thumbs:
Seen them for £700 is that a good price?

My non I.S version is brilliant. I thought all white lenes were weather sealed:shrug:

nope, neither of the non-IS 70-200's are weather sealed.

Haven't used the non IS F2.8 but by all accounts it's supposed to be a better performing lens than it's IS brother.

Bloody hell, I didn't know that. Thanks

I wouldn't let it bother you, I used mine in all sorts of conditions without protection of any sort, never had a single problem with camera or lens.

I think the weather sealing mentioned is the rubber seal to match up with the rubber seal on 1D bodies (and the 5DII). I can't find anything anywhere that states the difference between the weather sealing on the rest of the lesns, focus rings etc.

I've got the f2.8 non IS version and it is my main lens fast AF and sharp, really happy with it.

how much sharper is the non IS

There's very little to choose between them in real world subjects. I had both the f/2.8's at the same time and the difference was only noticeable on heavy crops of a bar code......I kept the IS version for its other benefits.
I've also had both the f/4's although not together. The f/4 IS is a good choice if f/2.8 isn't needed.

thats what i thought Bob, thanks for clarifying that for me. I am not a pixel peeper so this should be fine. Really tempted on this lens now! The IS as you said has its benefits!

Hey,

I have a Canon 70-200 F2.8 non IS...its a brilliant lens and great color and clarity.

But that being said, the Sigma in the same range is much cheaper, and my dad recently bought one. I compared the images on my camera with both lenses and i couldn't tell the difference, aprt from my dad saved over 400 dollars canadian...that can buy you another lens..

go into the store with your camera and try it..take you camera back home and see what the pics look like..you wont' be disappointed with either..

I believe that Sigma has just updated the lens to be faster, quieter and an even better image...
