Hi guys what is your opinion on the canon 6D? I have a 650d just now and looking to upgrade.
 
I have a 6D fantastic camera for the money low light performance excellent there is a really good thread on here and more so canon photography on the net website have a read through one thought though depending where and when you buy you may be able to pick up a used low shutter count 5D mark 3 as users upgrade to the mark 4 have seen 80 to 120k shutter actuations for 900 to 1200 pounds. Guess it depends if you want the extras from a mark 3 happy hunting.
 
I do have a 6d as well, very happy with it, good FF camera, go for it.
 
Depends what you want to use it for. For sports and BIF I would look elsewhere. Otherwise a great camera.

It might not be designed for sports or BIF, but I've been extremely successful shooting both on my 6d, to the point I use it more than my "sports" body. I've shot Formula 1, show jumping, the red arrows, and my dogs in flight (as well as birds) etc etc, it copes perfectly :)

Have to disagree with sports and BIF being an issue If you've got time have a wade thorough here loads of great shots across lots of shooting disciplines. Like Odd jim I have covered pretty much the same ground. Use more it than my 80D, which is aslo a great camera

Great camera! Doesn't have features, build-quality or AF performance of the 5D3 but image quality is actually fractionally better as is high-ISO performance and low light focusing.
 
I have one. Upgraded from a 40d and it is a different beast. So much better, but I'd hope so as 6yrs of tech is a long time....
Great for cranking up the ISO and still getting performance. Mine sits paired with a 70-200 2.8is. Love it.

Build is the same as 5d3, same weather sealing etc. The only difference is the polycarbonate top plate to allow the Wi-Fi and GPS to transmit.

Don't be silly, no one said it was as good as the 1dx for AF, jeez. If you can't work that one out, well...

The 7DII is supposedly like a cut down 1DX in terms of high speed performance. The AF functions are far more advanced on both the 7D Mk1 and 7D Mk2 (not to mention 5D3 and 1DX)
Think of the 6D as either a full frame sensor in a 60D body (it's the same size and weight, with the pretty much the same AF system) or like a 5D2 but with a newer sensor.

The 6D's AF is good, especially in low light, but not as good for moving subjects like sports. Not to say it can't be used for that, or that it won't take a good sports/wildlife shot, but there are cameras that are better suited to it. Also the burst rate for the 6D isn't as good as the 7D. But the shutter is soooo much quieter on the 6D, which is very nice if you're photographing a wedding or photographing wildlife. Don't want to scare off the animals with a machine-gun shutter.

As said, it does depend on what you want to photograph as to whether that's an issue for you.

I upgraded from a 60D to the 6D and love the full frame images and the low light capabilities. The two things I miss are the flip out screen (live view on my phone makes up for that a bit) and the method of moving the AF point isn't as intuitive.

Is this a real question?

Myself and other posters have said the 6d AF is still very capable for sporting / fast moving images in reply to some posters not recommending it for sports. No one ever said the AF was better than the class leading AF systems, that's not what the 6d is about.

But the fact is it's very capable of shooting sports and fast moving subjects.

Well not quite the same then :p I have both and the 6 certainly doesn't feel as "solid" as the 5 although that perception may be primarily down to the reduced weight and smaller size.

The build is the same "quality", it's just as solid as the 5d3 IMO, there's no difference in the actual quality. And as I said, the hotshoe plate is the only difference and that's for technical reasons.

If you look at the build and sealing diagrams they're almost identical.

The question was real, if not I would not have asked. The 6D may be capable of shooting sports and fast moving subjects, but if this is what you mainly want to use the camera for, then as I stated above, I would look elsewhere.

It depends though doesn't it? It might be a trade off, as you might want the sensor quality off the 6d over say, the 7d2, so it depends what your main requirements are. It might be some sport but also landscapes and portraits. Of course, a sports shooter would always go 7d2 or 1dx.

I've simply said the 6d is more than capable of locking into the fastest subjects you could possibly shoot (fast jets, F1 cars etc), so the advice was not necessary to discount the 6d if you shoot sports as well as other subjects. Not only is it capable, you have the benefit of arguably Canon's best sensor on top of that.
