Hi guys

I am new to the forum and have joined having read a number of your threads in reference to the above camera and there have been some very good quality discussions on the subject. I wanted to thank you guys for the information that you have discussed which was very useful, and compelled me to join.

As such, I think I have committed to buying one of these bad boys. My question relates to where to buy. I am tempted to try Digital Rev (which I am aware is one of your sponsors), but would welcome any first hand experience.

HDEW. First class service and competitive prices. UK based as well.
 
Digital rev have been good to me including a warranty repair on an s100 that was handled really well.
 
HDEW is new to me -had a quick looksee - looks on the face of it to be approximately midway between the HK outfits and the high street.

This might be a possible solution as I am a little worried about the fun and games that may arise from VAT and Customs officials!

To those that have bought from HDEW, is this a grey import, or a UK model? (don't mind in fairness, just like to know what level of warranty support to expect!)

I bought my 6D from HDEW they are based in Surrey so no problems with VAT or import duty. Service was excellent and very friendly.

Yes the cameras are grey imports (all cameras are imports) but they come with a three year warranty. Year one is they say with Canon the next two with HDEW paying for any repairs through Canon approved service centres.

There is a thread on HDEW on this forum - well worth you reading.
 
HDEW basically provide their own warranty, and the same people that do the offical Canon repairs do the same for HDEW. They source from both the US and Asia, so it's pot luck which you get (mine came with proper English and Spanish manuals so was US, but my 7D which I also got from HDEW had a photocopied manual because it had come out of Asia). Their service is good and they at least have a proper return address in the UK (even if it's an office rather than a shop) as opposed to a convenience address which is all many of the HK outfits run in the UK (if anything). So you return, if required, to this country, rather than having to ship back to HK if problems arise. (There's nothing wrong with Digital Rev or Panamoz, picking two of the better known HK retailers, by the way).
 
I've bought a 5D2 with 24-105 f4L kit and a 5D3 body from Hdew and have to highly recommend them. I've not had any problems with any of the stuff I've got off them so I don't know about their warranty work but as they offer 3 years with a Canon approved repair centre which can't be a bad thing. I think they also get some of their stuff from Europe so the warranty wouldn't be a problem anyway.

Another seller that I'd highly recommend is Panamoz. I've bought a few things from them, including a Canon 24-70 f2.8L II last week which took 4 days to arrive, and I've had brilliant service from them every time. I paid for the first couple of items by Paypal, but I now trust them so much I've made payment by bank transfer since and saved 5% off the list price. I've also had a warranty claim from them, a Sigma 150-500 OS developed a fault after 11 months so I emailed them to find out the procedure for warranty work. I was told to return it to a UK address so it went next day by RMSD. After only 11 days from first contacting them about the fault I had a brand new lens at my door with a full warranty again. 11 days is faster than a lot of UK based places I've dealt with so don't let others put you off saying about returning to HK. Okay I must admit I am wavering here. I suppose if they are both grey imports why not go for the cheaper. At the Panamoz price worst case the VAT will bring it up to the other price.

Decisions decisions!

I am greatly reassured by 'modchild''s comments. A warranty is as good as claim performance so this experience is invaluable!

Okaaay this is currently looking like the favourite. I must admit as appealing as the extra 5% off for the bank transfer is, the Paypal offers some come back if they take y money and disappear (not likely, I appreciate but my first order)...

This looks ideal for my needs, though I am caught by the other kit which is packed with the 24-70mm lens.

Is there enough of a difference to justify sacrificing the additional zoom in your guys opinions?

Nothing to do with 6D, but discussion about where to buy one.

I'm interested in a Sigma 150-500 so checked WEX, HDEW and Panamoz and prices were as follows;

HDEW £740
WEX £729
Panamoz £569

So Panamoz looks like a good recommendation by Ben and Modchild.

You get VAT invoice and EU style plugs so I don't see how it is grey... And on that note they are all imported from Asia
 
Another vote for Panamoz and you will get a 2 year UK warranty on the camera a 3 years on the lens , I say UK as they send a courier to collect and is UK based for warranty repairs so I read it.

Always worth emailing them to see if they can give you a better price than advertised for BT.
 
I bought my 6d from Digitalrev with the Canon 24-105L. No issues at all.

The price you see is what you end up paying with Panamoz. If you do get any customs/import/VAT charges then email a copy of the receipt to Panamoz and they will refund all the charges back to your account. I had a charge of around £27 for an order I placed just before christmas and after emailing Panamoz the receipt I was refunded in less than 10 minutes. I have no connections to Panamoz, apart from being a totally satisfied customer. I honestly wish I'd bought all my gear from them as they usually have the best price and carry most items in stock all the time. My 24-70 f2.8L II was £1159.95 delivered whereas the best I could find in the UK was Hdew at £1399 and they are both grey imports or around £1800 for genuine UK stock. If I had an unlimited budget I would of gone to LCE, WEX or Jessops but unfortunately I haven't got an unlimited fund and a £600 saving is a lot.

As an enthusiast (and not a very good one at that!) I am confident that this will give me far more equipment than I can really justify for a good price.

I think I will go with Panamoz though as it is a big lump, probably via the pay pal route.

I bought my new 70D from Panamoz with no problems and boy did it arrive quickly :)
 
Just the info i needed. Also need a repair, might give that HDEW or DigitalRev a go.
Had a mate of mine mention this site to, as seen mentioned around.
Looks like a courier too. @n0chex courier still ok? Dont mind sending it out rather than a shop??

I bought from Panamoz last week. I have to say, what an excellent service. I would definitely not hesitate in buying from them again in the future. :)
 
Only 1 x purchase to go on, but a friend recently bought a 50mm f1.2 from Eglobal. He was very pleased with the service. Price for 6D about the same as Panamoz, but 17-40 F4 is £100 cheaper !!
 
I was the person who used eGlobal for the nifty fifty. Excellent price and fast service - saved me more than £300. Digitalrev I have also used with fast service and tracking info. HDEW has also been used but their prices are not as competitive now as they used to be. Simply Electronics is another one to look out for though the service is slower.

Another shout for Panamoz, first class prices and service, this was the first time i've used them so was a bit cautious with the direct bank payment so played safe and paid via Paypal, but will certainly use them again and save an extra 5% with the bank transfer

I ordered the 6D last Sunday, it was despatched Tuesday and I had it delivered Thursday morning
 
I paid Panamoz with a bank transfer. I was feeling rather uncomfortable because of the amount. All was well though & communication was spot on. Ordered Monday, All arrived safely by Friday AM
 
I got my 6D from Ian @ Flash Camera for £1050, same price as Digital Rev(I think) but no risk with the VAT/Duty as that's covered before you receive it, gear cones from USA rather than HK. Heard a lot of good things about Panamoz too.
 
Camera arrived today from Panamoz as described and packaged nicely! Very happy and awaiting the full charge of the battery to play with my new toy! Thanks for all of your help guys!

Currently awaiting the flash gun ordered from Digital Rev :) (Have opted for a Speedlight 90 (as master when necessary) and 430II combo!)

I got mine from HDEW. They're not too far from me so I got to have a little Olay before handing over the card.

Camera now plugged in, and the low light performance is stunning (this being forced on me by the lack of flash and the current time of day! LOL)

When will it ever stop raining so I can explore with my new toy?!?!?!
