A few on Ebay going for £800 from Canon out,let with 12 months warranty.

Good deal for someone!

Hmm...

Some 60D's, 600D and 5D MkII, but no sign of any 6D.
Guess they went like the proverbial hot cakes (whatever they are.)

None currently listed on the outlet, none listed as completed sales in the whole of December ??

5d ii refurb is £1k so amazed if 6ds go for £200 less...

4 sold earlier, said body only, made me wonder if chargers etc were included!

how to find this outlet ? normal search says that the 800 ones are sold out. that was seriously tempting

Save it a favourite seller and check back regularly.

meh ! the 6d is deffo sold out. if it doesn't appear in next few days, I'm going full Fuji ! :p . thanks guys ! will save the outlet.

I have just joined TP and have posted on another thread regarding buying from an importer.
I had not realised beforehand all of the issues and temperatures raised by this subject, although i guess with the amounts to potentially be saved on mid to top range gear this was always going to be the case.
Some excellent advice on what to look out for, it has really opened my eyes..
Looks like it boils down to several choices:
-Paying inflated UK retailer prices, from a national big retailer who do not really care (Argos/Currys?)
-A high street specialist (very few left) who may or may not be a bit less expensive.
-Private purchase on an auction site. Caveat emptor. No warranty, even if the seller is in good faith.
-"Grey import". where do i start! Looks like Russian roulette- although as pointed out, if you know the risks it is up to you.

I then found this thread. seems to make sense if you can find the particular model.

I am not sure what refurbished actually means. repaired fault? repackaged? ex display? Are bodies for example wound back to zero?
The blurb states all items have been tested and have no faults.
The items get what looks like a 12mth warranty from Canon valid in the UK.
The pricing is similar to a brand new "grey import, but includes VAT so no waiting for the hand on the shoulder from the Revenue.

Is this too good to be true?

Refurbished could be:
  • Customer return, no fault (e.g.direct sale from Canon on-line shop returned under DSR)
  • Customer/shop return with fault, fault can't be identified unit tested as ok*
  • Customer/shop return with fault, fault identified/confirmed, repaired and tested as ok
  • Shop return following manufacturer recall, reason for recall rectified and tested as ok
  • Ex-display, usually a Canon show stand rather than a shop display unit (which the shop would sell as ex-display)
  • Ex-review, unit supplied for media review by Canon and returned after the review period
The packaging would be replaced as required, but the shot counter isn't normally reset.

I bought my 40D as a refurb about 6/7 years ago and it's still going strong. I've only replaced it this year (and it will hang around as back-up) because I want to mark a significant birthday with a new camera.

* I did some time in retail. If the manager got his stock predictions wrong and we ended up with an over-stock of a model that's proving unpopular with our customers it wasn't unheard of for one or two units to develop an intermittent minor fault before the store-to-manufacturer return period came up. The favourite at our shop was an "intermittent high pitched buzz/whistle from left-hand speaker".

No its not too good to be true. I have never bought a refurb camera but have bought a couple of Apple laptops from their refurb store and I have to say for all intents and purposes they are as good as new. You get the same warranty and piece of mind. I would buy refurb everytime from a trusted manufacturer

Cheers.
Being a Libran I am rubbish at making a decision, but I am definitely gravitating toward refurb now.

Gone for the refurb 60D body at £430.
Time will tell but I think I will now sleep easier, not having to worry about warranties and import/VAT, although I am also likely to buy an import lens.
Appreciate all the advice.

Arrived 8am Monday morning. Delighted. Boxed with all the bits included.
No idea in what way this is refurbished but the body looks absolutely pristine.
Time now to check out my existing EF lenses.
