I have just joined TP and have posted on another thread regarding buying from an importer.
I had not realised beforehand all of the issues and temperatures raised by this subject, although i guess with the amounts to potentially be saved on mid to top range gear this was always going to be the case.
Some excellent advice on what to look out for, it has really opened my eyes..
Looks like it boils down to several choices:
-Paying inflated UK retailer prices, from a national big retailer who do not really care (Argos/Currys?)
-A high street specialist (very few left) who may or may not be a bit less expensive.
-Private purchase on an auction site. Caveat emptor. No warranty, even if the seller is in good faith.
-"Grey import". where do i start! Looks like Russian roulette- although as pointed out, if you know the risks it is up to you.
I then found this thread. seems to make sense if you can find the particular model.
I am not sure what refurbished actually means. repaired fault? repackaged? ex display? Are bodies for example wound back to zero?
The blurb states all items have been tested and have no faults.
The items get what looks like a 12mth warranty from Canon valid in the UK.
The pricing is similar to a brand new "grey import, but includes VAT so no waiting for the hand on the shoulder from the Revenue.
Is this too good to be true?
