Yes
I'm on the hunt for a new camera, since I'm new to this I started of with a old nikon d200. It certainly confirmed my passion for photography and a want to invest into a better camera.
But in all honesty, technology is not my strong point (not great huh), for the last couple of months I've been like a headless chicken looking at many different cameras trying to make sense of what will be best for me. I think I've narrowed it down to either the canon 6d or nikon d600 - I was eyeing up the canon mk3 for a long while, but for now photography is only an enjoyable hobby for me so I thought it was abit too pricey for now.
So any of you own either the 6d or d600 and have any reviews, or must-knows? Preferably simpled down for a equipment simpleton!
Thank you,

There must be plenty of comparison reviews on the internet. Just google

Canon 6d v Nikon d600

and I'm sure they will come up.

But remember you're buying in to a whole system, not just a camera body. Would I be correct in thinking that Canon has a wider range of lenses at different price points than Nikon.....?

I'm honestly not sure.

The bodies are the cheap bit - you have to look at total spend.
Some lenses are just priced out of this world.

Personally, I don't think either makes are that much better than the other in just the same way that some people are left handed & some are right..

In the first place I'd consider D610 instead. D600 has a well know design issue with collecting excessive amount of dust on the sensor. It is discontinued now and replaced with D610, which exist only to address that bug and doesn't add anything else. Nikon was hugely criticized on that decision but this is another story. Still the old model could be a bargain, but only if you are keen to wet cleaning your sensor far often than normal.

Other than that, although Nikon looks better on paper in the real world they are same. One gain in some respects, but other in other. Both are carefully placed in terms of the product line marketing and are very good match each other. You may want to watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9HlxWqcG5Y

I was in the same dilemma before so I think it is important to look on this as buying into a system, not a camera. Canon has the edge on lens offering and have wider selection in any price bracket. Nikon has better (expensive) wide zoom though. Also more choice means nothing if Nikon already has your requirements in line.

A little advantage of Canon is also their better naming. It is easy to understand which lenses are their top grade and which are moister and dust resistant. Nikon is a bit more confusing.

At the end of the day it doesn't really matter which one you're gonna choose. Both systems are very capable and you'll be very happy with either choice. You might consider Nikon if you are already Nikon shooter, use to menu and button placement and have some FX glasses. It's entirely personal preference, your view on the ergonomic and understanding of product line. Just go to the nearest shop and spend some time on testing and chose with you gut feeling :)

Bought a 6d from Wilkinsons Cameras last week with a free grip and the £150 Canon cashback. They're now doing an extra £150 off for the next week which is a great deal!

Seems to be differing offers on top of the Canon £150 cashbook, some free grip and some another £150.

Ive been a Nikon user D7000 and then a D600 which I sold because of the dust issues, tried a Canon 6D and I was very impressed with the image quality, it was awesome at higher iso levels and the focusing in low light was way better than my D600 ever was. I really wanted to like it to replace my D600 as it's a lot cheaper than the new D610 and the offers are good but I just couldn't get used to the Canon control style and I missed having the two memory card slots so it looks like I'll be ordering a new D610 this week.

I already know that as long as there aren't any technical issues like dust that the D610 will be excellent however I do feel in low light that the Canon has the edge over the Nikon.

Was that in store or online? Just looked at the deal online with £300 cashback and a free grip/Flash but when adding the grip to basket it doesn't get discounted

Harrison cameras are doing the same deal ... £1325 incl free grip, lightroom and elements. Then claim Canon £150 cashback.

Very tempted to buy this instead of a 5D MKIII and then I could keep the 7D for wildlife/airshows.

I bought mine in store with £150 cashback and grip, but before the extra £150 discount offer was announced.

I love my D600. Go try out both, they feel very different in hand. The dust issue didn't put me off. If it happens it will go for warranty repair.

Not sure how many are left out there though.

Was it long before the announcement? Complain to canon and the shop you might get lucky.

I bought it on Sunday and the offer was announced Thursday or Friday! Wilkinsons don't think they can do anything but I'll find out for certain tomorrow. Might get in touch with Canon if they can't help, nothing to lose I suppose. Anyone planning to take up the deal should act quickly as I think it ends on Thursday.

I'm not sure the extra £150 is a Canon thing... it seems that some shops are doing it but not all.

I got in touch with Wilkinsons where I bought mine from and they said it was a Canon promotion and couldn't help me, but when I spoke to Canon they insisted it was nothing to do with them and was a shop deal
