Last year I just had my Canon 60D with 2 lenses when I went on holiday to Portugal and found that I ended up leaving the camera most of the time as it was just too hot and heavy unless we were going somewhere specific I knew I was going to take photos.

This made me buy my Sony RX100 II for this kind of situation

I go on holiday to Madeira tomorrow and can’t decide what to do!

Do I take both or should I be brave and just take my Sony RX100 II forcing me to use my RX 100 as I always opt for my canon id I have both with me.

I do have a gorillapod, ND filter and, polariser for my RX100 for some creative situations

What would you do?

RX100 only for me. Go enjoy your holiday!

You answered the question in your first line!!

The part i was missing last year was just having a small camera with me when just going for a wonder as the 60d was just too big and heavy so im thinking the rx100 for general day to day then have the 60d when i know im going somewhere i know is a good photo oppourtunity such as a trip to the top on the mountains on the cable car when the 300mm would come in useful.

I normally take a quality camera with just the one wide aperture standard lens (35 or 50mm) and a quality compact for the longer and wider shots in good light and for the days when the big camera is too much.

Luckily my GF actually encourages me to a camera with me and take pictures as she then pinches them and sends them to family and friends.

Look at the sites through your eyes. What are you going to do with the pic of the sea from the cable car? Print it out large and display it? Or is it going to sit on a hard drive in amongst numerous other files?

Take the Sony, enjoy the holiday and take great pictures with that.

Make sure you go to the Botanical gardens. And consume lots of pasteis de nata.....

You might be right there. I get a bit obsessed on thinking i need to take some great photos as most of the time day to day takes over and photos take a back seat (which i need to do something about) so i see holidays as my chance to take great photos. Luckily my missus encourages me to photograph and is very patient happily watching me or taking photos of me bending over looking at my camera and posting them to facebook.

Anyway sounds like you have been, have you got any other must visit spots or tips. Were only there for a week!
