canon 60d owners thread

Who uses their left eye to look through the view finder?

I look through with my left eye and last night I was playing with a friends 600D and I found my nose kept hitting my thumb so I had to keep moving my thumb. It was pretty annoying actually. It also meant I basically wasn't taking advantage of the nice grip.
 
another happy 60d owner here.. I have had mine for just over a year and mainly use it with a 15-85mm for landscapes, holidays etc which I find a great combination..

Hello,

I just bought the Canon 60d twin lens kit and was thinking about buying a reasonable flash,

I keep hearing about the Yongnuo YN560 II Flash Speedlite and a Yongnuo YN-565EX Wireless Slave TTL Flash Speedlite for Canon,

I am a complete novice so any help would be appreciated.
 
Im about to upgrade to a 60D from a 400D so this thread will be really useful :)

yep, I have just 'downgraded' from a 1Dsmk2 and decided on a 60D as a stop gap until I decide my next move, £485 paid from Panamoz, absolute bargain IMO.. nice to use superb images and was messing around with video earlier with a 40mm 2.8 STM attached and was really impressed, will defo delve a bit more into the vid side of things.
 
OK everyone, I just pulled the trigger on this and ordered a 60D 18-135mm and 50mm F1.8 from DigitalRev. Should have it by the end of the week. Although it's a birthday pressie to myself so I have to wait until 2nd Dec to open it. I'll get the missus to open it and charge the battery before hand so I don't have to wait

I'm so excited.

Haven't used the 18-135 but the 50 is a cracking wee lens and the 60d is a very capable camera but I would say that as I've got one :)
 
Fellow 60D owners - can any of you help me with my exposure simulation issue please ? See here http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=448527

Or even better could one of you try it please ? Just select the 'exposure simulation' option from the menu - stick it on live view (with Av selected) and go into a dark room. Does the screen show up dark or does it show a simulation of the final shot ?

Any help greatly appreciated! :)
 
I got my 60D in May, I love it.

I'm looking for a medium zoom lens, but can't decide on what to get. I've got a sigma DG 18-200, looking for something a bit better for indoor shooting.

Anyone got any thoughts.

Also Can anyone help with finding an original canon battery grip for a reasonable price??
 
canon 70-200 either the f2.8 or the f4 depending on your budget

The price difference from the canon to the sigma seems crazy. I guess the quality just ain't the same.

Have you used the sigma at all?
 
Nice thread. Looking at selling my 400D on payday and putting a few hundred on that and get a 60D. I was going to get a 50D for £400 of MPBphotographic but for an extra £100 I can get a 60D brand new.
 
Well it arrived. I've got to say I'm impressed. Ordered 9pm Sunday from DigitalRev, arrived in Sheffield, UK at 14:30 Tuesday. About 6000 miles in less than 48 hours and that's free P&P too.

Now I've just got to resist playing with it until my Birthday in 2 weeks. I might have to get it out to "check it's working" before that ;)

I have and its fine - the canon is stabilised though, and has a quiter focus.

If I had the money i'd pick the canon every time, but if you need a budget option the sigma is a perfectly good choice

I've got a little cash saved, might just keep saving and get the canon. MPB have a few second hand in excellent condition, for a bloody good price!

I had it out last night to charge the battery and quickly make sure everything was working correctly. I was VERY happy with the quality and feel of everything. The camera fits perfectly in my hands. I couldn't actually take any pics as my mem card is still in the post but I got chance to look through the view finder. I noticed that the manual was in Japanese which is a bit of a pain but not the end of the world. It's now gone away again until the 2nd Dec. I really want to play with it :D
 
You can download am English version from canon's website. I downloaded to my iPhone when I ordered mine as I couldn't wait until my camera arrived. It is also handy as a quick reference when I'm out. Enjoy your 60d, I upgraded from a 350d and love mine :-D

Yeah. I've got the same one which I ordered from Amazon and comes with 2 additional batteries. Would definitely recommend.

That's odd my 60d came from panamoz and the manual is English!!
And what's this about updating firm ware didn't no you needed to do this what does it do!!

I'm wondering the same thing!!! I'm sure I'll find out soon though.. I'm going to do some research before doing it...
 
Personally I would stay away from the cheaper grips mainly because I use a tripod and rather than having to remove the grip every time, I use the mount on the grip. My point is that the cheaper grips tend to use cheaper (not as strong) plastics and I don't want to risk my £1000 camera + lens. If you are going to be using the tripod thread, either for a tripod or strap why not keep a look out for a 2nd hand genuine one. I got mine on a deal with the camera and it feels just as solid as the body itself.

Dependant on how long you've had your camera it may already be up to date. My camera came from Panamoz in july with the latest version. If not here is a link for more info

Main thing is something about the metadata showing the wrong serial no I think
 
My partner has just ordered a 60D from Jessops for me as a birthday/christmas present :) Can't wait to get it and get outside and try it out!!!! Roll on 18th December, my birthday ( not waiting until christmas day thats for sure!! )

I received mine on 20th nov and am waiting til 2nd Dec to open. Does seem to be dragging.

Re the question of battery grips, I went with the genuine Canon grip and am glad I did. It is an excellent addition to the camera but it does make it quite a big, heavy lump!

that's the reason why I don't use mine much, I never need 2 fully charged batteries. 1 is always enough! I do keep several spare in my bag.
The camera is comfortable on its on :)
