Hi folks

I use a 60D with the following (all Canon) lenses:

---------------
50mm 1.8
18-135mm
17-85mm
70-200 F4 IS
60mm 2.8 Macro
1.4x MKII
----------------

I've never shot anything other than a test shot with the macro so may get shot of that, not sure.

I don't shoot anything in particular, just holidays, days out, party's etc.

Really like the 18-135mm for when I don't want to take the bag with me but it's not ideal in low light.

Now I'm thinking of ditching the 17-85 and getting a 17-55mm 2.8 and using that and and the 70-200mm as my main lenses.

Only thing is that leaves me with 55-70 not covered which I don't think would be a problem, would it?

Guess I'm just looking for someone to agree with me before I do the Amazon checkout for the 17-55mm. ;)

Any thoughts anyone?

Only you can answer this. I feel every range should be covered, but if you don't need it don't worry about it.

Have to agree because I have the 17-55mm, 70-200mm along with a 10-22mm and haven't found myself wanting for anything else (also got the same TC too) that 15mm gap could easily be covered by a step or two of the feet

Thanks folks, yes I think I can cover the gap with a step or 2.

After something that really compliments the quality of the 70-200, thought about the 15-85 too but I think the low light on the 17-55 ticks the correct boxes.

Think this would do me till I then want to go wider which of course I have absolutely no need for (at the moment). :D

That's what I thought too :)

Just a thought, my daughter bought the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 VC lens

Got to say that the Canon 17-55mm is no way twice as good although it is almost double the price

I'd go for it. I dont notice any issues with the gap between 55mm and 70mm.

I have the
60 mm
Sigma 17-50
Tamron 30-700
And coming soon tokina 11-16

I take all kind of shots and I don't think I need any more lenses. Of course I'll buy lenses but it would be to replace existing ones.

I'd be interested to hear how you get on with the 17-55 2.8 if that's what you go for. I've got the 60D with just the 50mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.8 primes at the moment and have been looking at various options for standard zooms.

Was looking at both the 15-85mm and the 17-55mm. From the write ups i've read they're both close in image quality, so maybe it's just the focal length vs wider aperture as a deciding factor.

The IS on the 15-85 is very, very good and makes up for nearly all the extra 2 stops the 17-55 has for shutter speed - but only for static subjects and not where you want shallower DoF! It is lighter, cheaper, has a longer focal range. It is nearly permanently attached to our 7D.

The 17-55 has an equally good IS system. The other points I agree with.

No... it's a stop slower reading the specs and the reviews (17-55 has 3 stop, 15-85 has 4.x stop)... I'll split the difference and say it gets half way there ;)

Had the same three lenses and never missed the 55-70 range. Only reason I switched the 17-55 out was because I wanted weather sealing, not because of extra range.

Depends what your shooting, I have the 15-85mm along with a 1.4mm and a 70-300mm L and its a great all round lens to leave on your camera. Its more compact than the 17-55mm but i guess eigher of these lenses give great pictures

I've not taken the plunge yet but I'm not far away.

Combinantion of Amazon having the 17-55mm @ £767 instead of £749 and me not having shifted my 17-85mm yet.

I have the 17-55 and a telephoto starting at 70.

I can honestly say i have never thought 'oh i wish i ahd something inbetween' as others have said i think you can get around this by moving slighlty (or cropping afterwards).
What you might miss however is being able to zoom from 18-135 without changing lenses?
For me i have never been able to do it - so i have never missed it - but i guess its something you should consider?

Wouldn't miss this as I'd keep the 18-135mm for times when I just want the body & one lens with tme.

I fnd the 18-135mm a real handy lens for a casual day without lugging lots of kit.
