Canon 600D Official Owners Thread - Anything 600D Related

I went with the mark I, as much as I would have liked the mark II it was just too expensive and will probably remain that way for a long long time.
I was initially worried about the lack of IS as well compared to the 17-55 but if your shutter speeds are getting slow enough to introduce blur then you can just up the ISO on the 5DII because it handles much better at higher ISOs and the noise cleans up nicely. I regularly use ISO 1600 without a problem!

Sunday and Monday are the best nights weather permitting when the Perseid meteor shower is at it's peak with a predicted 100 meteors an hour.

It really depends on the effect that you are after. If you want nice blurry star trails with some streaks of meteors then I highly recommend this excellent guide written by Matt as a place to start.
If you want each star to be visible then the generally accepted formula is 600/focal length on a full frame or 300/focal length on a crop like the 600D but I have yet to put it into practice!

Thanks Rico. The article is really useful. I am hoping to get out on the Moors somewhere to have a go and see how they turn out on Monday night.

You're welcome. :)

Weather permitting and if I have the time I am hoping to head out to Exmoor and see what I can capture.
Hopefully at least one night will be clear!

Any luck?

Well I didn't make it out to the moors but I did have some success in my back garden despite the light pollution.

There's a thread on it here.

I'm looking at getting a 600D in the next month-or-so (will be my first DSLR).

What are the best prices around at the moment?
Please bear in mind I want to be able to 'shoot' straight away so the 18-55 lens kit is essential, as is memory card.

Is this a good price, bearing in mind you also get a 'free' starter kit?

SLRHut are in the US. They add on import taxes etc at the end of checkout and the cost rockets. Not a good way to do business and you'll find cheaper elsewhere.

Thanks, care to elaborate?

Panamoz? ProCameraShop? DigitalRev? Probably most bricks and mortar retailers in the UK! Start your order with SLRHut. Go to checkout and work your way through with fake details. Then note the price they quote before you have to commit to pay (careful!!).

I'll be gettin my 600D soon from digitalrev.
Comes with 3 uv filters, kit lens, 50mm lens and 16gb card for £540.

Can't wait tbh.

I've recently very stupidly got clobbered with USA delivery charges and import duty of £30 - (charged by UK Delivery co before they would release parcel) for a camera bag I could only find in US on line, never again! - so be very sure you are calculating in UK IMPORT DUTY on any online purchase from USA - good luck

I bought a bag on eBay that was shipped from Israel but luckily I didn't get stung for any charges.

got to be careful with import tax! .. they can send you the invoice weeks after you have had the delivery, .. :gag:

it's always best to buy from Uk cause if something happens to ur dslr Canon Uk willn't repair ur dlsr. DigitalRev is based in China so u would have to send it back to China for repair. Or u repair it here and they will refund u what they think the repair is worth. Don't do it. Have u tried gumtree or ebay there could be people upgrading and selling theirs.

Hi Tola, welcome to the forums.

As far as I understand it, DigitalRev have a local agent for repairs, so it isn't quite as I think you are trying to say.

Could i also suggest it might be better to write in normal English as there are a lot of older users on these forums who don't particularly like txtspk or unwarranted strange abbreviations.

Sorry about that will take note of that. I said that because I checked their website when I was looking for cheaper options about 7 weeks ago and wasn't happy with the terms and conditions so brought my 600d else where. I plan on upgrading soon to be honest

Which lens would be better?
Tamron 70-300 for £119 or Sigma 70-300 for £129

The reviews I've read seem to point to the Tamron.

£119 is a good price. I'd be interested to know where I could get one at that price!

As I said, I have the tamron, its really nice. Not done macro with it but all my motorsport shots are with it

Hi, what will be a good 600d upgrade option? I need lot of advice on this considering I'm upgrading only after 7 weeks of purchasing 600d. I would like something mid range, good in all kind of conditions, not too heavy,I will be using it to take pictures mainly wildlife, people, places, special occasions

What is it you want the 600D to do that you can't do with it? Then look for those features in the new camera.
For wildlife, mid range, good in most conditions the logical choice would be a 7D.

FWIW I went from a 600D to a 5D MKII and upgraded all my lenses at the same time.

Thanks Rico, that's a very good upgrade you got. I did have a look at the 7D and changed my mind once I saw he price of it new.I would have to save up for it for a while. So I also looked at some Nikons and another option is D7000 which is alot cheaper than 7d.

Which mount do I need for the 600D. Is it Canon AF or Canon EF-S?

Both, normal Canon AF (more correctly EF) and EF-s both fit/work on the 600D (as well as on all crop Canon bodies made from the 300D, only excl. the 10D and 60D which can't mount EF-s).

May I ask why you feel as though you need an upgrade?

On the Jessops website it says AF

I see why they may say that. EF stands for electro focus. AF stands for auto focus. I could be wrong on this but I think that they are one in the same. However when referring to EF or EF-S most of the time it's referring to the mount. EF-S is for crop sensors (smaller) and are closer to the sensor. This is why you can't mount one on a full frame with a large sensor, it will hit because it's to close. But the EF lens will work on either.

Shanye, I want a better image quality like that of d7000. Expensive lens isn't in my budget
Or rather I don't see why I should spend a lot on lens. BUt my friend came over last night I was wondering why I was selling it. She fell in love with it. I have looking for a new owner for 3 weeks and nothing I will give up soon and buy lens maybe. Are there any u think I should buy? If I start buying lens can't leave canon

A good quality lens will make more difference to image quality than an expensive body.
Regardless of which manufacturer you go with, you need to spend as much if not more on good quality lenses if you want good quality images.
If you stick with the 600D a highly recommended lens is the 17-55 f2.8. I had one and its so superior to the kit lens.
Also, have a look at the 70-200 f4L. Both can be had for £400 and will make more difference than moving to a D7000 with kit lens.

It's just my opinion but f you are looking for image quality I think your money may be better spent on some good glass. There are differently some advantages from one body to the next but I don't think the actual image quality is enough on these bodies to justify that move. I too have a 600d and plan to upgrade next year. The way I see it if I am gong to upgrade it needs to be just that, an upgrade. I will go with the 5D mrk3. That is a huge step above the 600D and I feel that it's a true upgrade that I am getting my money's worth.

Another thing is that the pros I talk to all say to upgrade glass first, then upgrade body.
