Canon 600D Official Owners Thread - Anything 600D Related

Yes I have played with it. I have it on one of memory cards so I can just put that card in when I want to use it.

Hi guys,

picked one of these up but am looking for a new lens (been looking at the 24-7-mm 2.8).

anyone recommend a decent wireless remote?

thanks

Hi 600D owners,
I'm just waiting for delivery of my new to me 600D, I have a Canon 55-250 mm Lens which is included, does anyone have any experience with this particular lens and do you rate it? I've read a few write ups and it seems to get mixed reviews.

Also what is the easiest way to tell the shutter count on the camera?

Thanks
:)

I had one, it's a great first zoom but can be a little soft at times. I only sold it to get a 70-200 F4L otherwise I would have kept it! :)

The official Canon wireless remote is under a tenner on eBay but I got this one for 2 quid and it works fine. ;)
It has 2 modes, 2 second timed release an instant release. On bulb mode press once to start and press again to stop.

It adds a lot of features for regular photography aswell.
9 exposure bracketing
Focus highlighting
Motion detection
Etc...

Appreciate the advice Rico, the 55-250 mm Lens will do me just fine for the time being as i'm just getting to grips with it all.

I looked at it a little last night but have not found anything that I must have. Is there a list of features that I missed somewhere.

There is a manual of all the features you can look through on their website. A lot of options are fairly specialised so pointless to some people and very usefull to others. Focus stacking is one example where you can set focus start and stop ranges and get the camera to take pictures working from start to the end. Handy for macro so you can merge the images to get everything in focus.

Just ordered a 600D after my 400D suffered an unfortunate tumble. :'( bit disappointed to find out the 650D is out. But hay ho. I am sure the 600D will be decent upgrade for me.

Thanks for the info. Focus stacking sound interesting.

The 600D will be a lot cheaper than the 650D when it first comes out :)

Just spent ages reading this thread from the start. Lots of great info :)
I got my 600D on Saturday with the standard 18-55mm lens. Been taking pics of anything and everything lol.
Im lucky that my father is well into his photography and owns a 5D (Mk1) and various lenses so rather than having to splash out on another lens he has said i can borrow one of his if need be.
He's got a 100 macro, a 24-105 f2.8L and a 70-200 f2.8L. Havent tried any of them on my cam yet though, need to figure out how the cam works first lol :)

He has some nice lenses, careful you don't get spoiled. lol. I was wondering how the 24-105 compares to the 70-200 on image quality. What does your father say about it? Oh, if you get a chance try out the 17-55 2.8 lens, I love mine.

I didn't know that they could do that. Is that common with full frame?

I don't know. The 5D series is a bit outside of my price range for me to look at the detailed spec :P
The 7D crop camera might have dual card slots.

I have a 24-105 L and think it is great walk about lens, I have never used the 70-200 but everyone I know who owns one speaks very highly of it. I use it on a 550D and the L lens compliments it well, sharp, light and amazing pictures so far.

I've not tried the 70-200 2.8 but I own the 70-200 f4l and it's awesome.

I've got a 17-55 2.8 on hire from lensesforhire for next week as I'm on holiday in Cornwall and I can't wait to use it. :)

That is one amazing lens. You are going to love it. Let us know what you think when you get back.

I used to own the Fujifilm HS20 EXR but wanted to upgrade to a DSLR. After hours and hours of research, I got the 600d from Jessops. Got the 18-55mm kit lens with it. I also opted for the 50mm f/1.8 prime lens too (I'm looking at doing live music photography). I also picked up the Jessops own 360AFD Flashgun. So far, I am really impressed with the results.

I'm looking at getting some more batteries. I know that Jessops sell the Cannon LP-E8 for £59.99, but I noticed that I can pick up a 3rd party LP-E8 on flea-bay for about £10. I know that cheaper isn't always better, but some people have ended up getting decent 3rd party batteries. In some instances, they have even performed better than the Original ones....

Completely forgot to reply! The 17.55 F2.8 is an amazing lens. I was so impressed that I bought one and it's been fixed to my 600D since!

Also, the service from lensesforhire was brilliant and I will be using them again in the not to distant future.

I got some third party batteries from the 7 Day Shop they were really cheap and better than the original.

totally agree, the 17-55 is awesome!

Wow didn't realise this thread had become so popular! Well I have had my 600D for about 8 months now and seeing as I have the camera bug I have upgraded already to a 7D. Reasons being I am getting more into sport/Motorsport photography and love the 8fps and auto focus. Still love the 600D though...

I have abandoned it and it will be gone in a few hours. Still love it though haha

I would seriously consider getting a battery grip. I got one from Amazon for about£25 with two batteries. Fantastic bit of kit - it gives you an extra shutter button for portrait mode too!

I will agree with that, i bought a battery grip for about £30 with two spare batteries and it came with a spare tray that will take ordinary batteries too, it also had a nice storage area for the battery compartment door. I wasn't sure i would like it, but i love it now i have got used to it.

Bought mine about a month ago from Clifton cameras body only for £550 12 months interest free credit with 50percent down and£50 cash back nt had much chance to play with it as working a lot but so far impressed with it . Just need to get some decent lenses to go with it .got a nifty and sigma 70-300 pluss canon100 m macro and 17-55 kit lens . Some sort of l series next on my wish list .good step up from 1000D

15-55 kit lens? Do you mean 18-55?

i have just received two parcels today... first was from HDEWCameras...for my brand spanking new 24-105 4f L lens :):) and the other was for my new lowepro slingshot 102 AW bag. well first of all the lens is huge and heavy!!! sure its heavier than my 600D but it looks very nice on it! took a few indoor shots and it seems quick focusing and nice images but no outdoor use yet. The lowepro bag is great, it is well made and you can tel its a quality item. It has loads of storage compartments but...... its a tad on the small size for the 24-105 L lens. It will not fit inside with the lens hood on so i removed it and it sits with my other 50mm 1.8f lens. Bought this for my honeymoon to mexico in feb and this is the bag that fits the stupid strict thomas cook airline measurements which I'm sure are smaller than all the others!

Did you turn the lens hood around and remount it before putting it in the bag. Sorry if this seems like a stupid question but I have seen it done before. I was in a camera store and these shoppers where trying out bags when I over heard one say none of these smaller bags will work with this lens. That's when I noticed that he had the hood mounted adding an extra inch or two. I showed him how to do it and his reply was "oh wow I didn't know you could do that". My reply was, either did I until someone showed me. lol

Yes the lens had to have the hood mounted backwards to fit. I have more kit now so don't use this bag. Always buy a bag slightly bigger because you will out grow it lol

I too have now left the 600D club, I bought a 5D MK2! :)
The lure of full frame lushness was too hard to ignore any longer. I wish I could have got a 5D3 but they are well out of my budget as a camera like that deserves top quality glass IMO.

Cool. Pm me your address and I'll pop it in the post tomorrow or Friday. :)
