Canon 5d4 do I or don't I ?

Thinking of selling my Canon 5d4 which I hardly use these days since buying the R6.

The R6 seems to satisfy all my photo needs as an amateur, so I am thinking seriously about saving towards the newer R camera when released.

The 5d4 is in good condition, boxed etc and more importantly a relatively low shutter count of around 16,000

Can anyone give me some realistic guidance as to how much I should be asking for it - I never trust ebay as their prices are all over the place, and recently mpb have been down valuing items according to friends recently

Am I doing the right thing in thinking of selling is the other question bearing in mind its sat on a shelf all the time these days
 
Take a look at Park Cameras website. They have some used examples for sale. At least that will give you a better idea of value.

Should you sell? Will you regret it? Only you can truly answer that!

I sold all my Canon gear and moved to Fuji, never once regretted it :)
 
Full frame DSLRs are dropping in value now due to the number of mirrorless options available.
If you continue with photography for the next 10 years you'll likely need to change to mirrorless at some point so the question is, if not now, when?
The only problem is that mirrorless is more expensive when looking at new models and as Canon are discontinuing almost all the EF lenses, you will also need to think about when to upgrade your lenses.
Even if you got £1500 for your 5D4, a used R6 is still about £2200, then you need to either change lenses or buy an adapter.

I moved from a 6D to an RP last year. I don't regret it at all. It's not only a better camera but also the advantages of mirrorless make life easier (with the exception of battery life).
I have two RF lenses and two EF lenses, but the RF lenses are the ones I use the most so it was worth upgrading them first.

Can I suggest you try an R6 before you go about selling the 5D4?

Yes the Testdrive system is brilliant, I did get an R6 after trialling - just thinking about some cash towards the next model
 
If you have the R6 and prefer it to the 5d4 - and you have no need for the 5d4 then yes sell it while you can get good money for it. It will depreciate on the shelf and someone else might really want a mint 5d4 and get bags of use from it.
 
I have sold my 5D4 this week after a lot of hard thinking. I also have an R5. For some things I think the 5D4 is better, but I just don't reach for it.

I got some quotes from a few places like Wex, LCE and MPB and then bumped into a friend who wanted to buy it, so it's gone to him now - at a bargain price, but no hassle.
 
The prices from the major suppliers of used equipment have come down for dslrs. As you will not offer a guarantee you should expect. a lower price.

Then you look at how much they then want to sell on for and you will see a lot of company greed coming into play. There is one large company currently selling ones with 300k shutter actuations for similar prices to what people with realistiically low actuations seek. 300k is plain silly when you think the camera is rated for 150k on average
 
In my recent phase of selling stuff [ driven by moving house] including some older lenses, I eventually chose to send my kit to Ffordes. They took kit nobody else would and I received 3x the solo lowest bid for one of the items. Consider giving them a ring. They will sell it on a commission, trade in or buy out basis. They prefer to do commission first. In one batch of items, I had decided I wanted to take the money [impatience due to house moving overload] and emailed to ask if I could do that. They told me that one of the items had sold [2 weeks out on approval] and they did not have to do that.
 
I think there is still value in the 5D4, and I believe a lot of people committed to DSLR and changing from 5D2/3/S will seek out 4s.......

If you had a 7D2, that would be less comforting reading. Unlike D500, it's the camera owners are more likely to jettison when moving to mirrorless... that's what happened with OHs' kit.

7D2 was sold to MPB but was penalised for a poor performing batttery (!!) and the rest went to Cambrian. Still has 5D4 and intends to keep, enjoys her R6.
 
The 7Dii is still a fine camera particularly if you need the extra reach of a cropped sensor. If Canon bring out the rumoured mirrorless cropped sensor camera I would be tempted.

I agree that the 5Div is still a sought after camera but as I have a 5Diii I do not think the upgrade is justified. Will need to wait for a R6.

The OP did well with the price he got his sale.

Unfortunately, that seems to have been too good to be true.

Nevertheless, as the person indicated above who was interested in a 5D4 it's been interesting to see how the price expectation has been adjusted, and it seems that the dealers have quite a lot of them at the moment, for the reasons noted above no doubt. I picked one up late last week from WEX for £1150 with a shutter count of only around 5000. Amazing really as despite their '8' categorisation of it, it appears to me to be as new (with the exception of a missing strap, which I can live with!).

I think that's probably a bit lower than it should be, but there certainly does seem to be more of a downward trend in prices of non-mirrorless bodies than I've seen for a while, so a half decent time to buy. Obviously not such a great time to sell unless your expectations are set properly in light of the current movement to mirrorless and corresponding increase in stock at the usual places etc. Perhaps it's not surprising, although the cost of the new glass is eyewatering!

You did well with that purchase. 8 is their lowest categorisation so I would have expected a fair amount of signs of wear. I hope you enjoy the camera, if not I might make an offer:)

I agree that the price of glass is eye watering both new and often used.
 
Well the 5d4 sold in the end for what I was asking to someone local, so was pleased as were they.

Word to the wise do not try selling on Facebook Marketplace it is full of scammers - I tried it and was inundated with requests. In the end I ended up asking people to provide proof of identity and where they lived, that saw most not reply again. One person pushed it further, but eventually identified him as a scammer too - so be warned :)
