I'd guess the street price will be somewhat lower were as I believe Nikon have set the MRP as the minimum price for dealers for the D800.

That's in America, price fixing is illegal in this country.....,

Well Canonrumors thinks they've got the definite specs for 27th/28th release.

http://www.canonrumors.com/2012/02/the-next-5d-on-february-2728-2012-cr3/

22mp
61pt AF
100% VF
3.2″ LCD
Dual CF/SD Card Slots

I'd buy that for a dollar.. Wait? Price: Around $3500 USD :gag:

Well that's the same list price that the 5D2 released with in 2008 so not unexpected.

If the 6.9fps rumors hold and they squeeze in at least a stop's worth of high ISO goodness I'm probably getting one regardless of all the video features ;)

I'd be very happy with those as long as they throw in some seals here and there ($1 extra cost to them). The only problem is that I don't have spare £3500 so will have to wait.

Surely Canon aren't going to replace a camera currently selling for £1500 with one costing more than twice as much? That just doesn't make any sense, unless they keep the MKII in production too.

Even then it makes it nearly 50% more expensive than it's competitor, the D800 and again that makes no sense. I reckon realistically the UK price will be around £2500 at launch....

Yep I reckon that's about right Graham.

If they announce on 27/28th then they may have some at Focus on Imaging the following week - I hope so.

I can stomach a £2500 price tag (selling mkii in the process) but £3500 is a complete no go area until the price comes down.

Not long to wait though!

I'm in the market for a 5d Mkii - how do people feel about how this release will affect the prices?

I think prices will be affected a little but not much. The 5D3 will come in at such a high price point that it won't affect 5D2 prices directly but they'll come down a bit due to supply and demand as current owners upgrade.

You seriously need to cheer up Mr.

And you seriously need to get a life.

Spending your time on forums discussing something that doesn't even exist. How empty your life must be! I feel sorry for you.

Please DO NOT let this thread descend into a childish slanging match.

Neil, the whole idea of a forum is to discuss thoughts, happenings and the like. People are ALLOWED to do that. Speculation over the next Canon body will always prompt rumour and speculation in the same vein as any potential launch of an anticipated product and as an owner of this forum it makes me happy that people WANT to discuss photographic products......after all, that's why we set it up.

Back to topic now..........

If the 5d3 comes out at a similar price to the old 1d4, and it has the features listed......especially the vastly improved AF, my savings are going to be feeling a bit nervous.

Amen.

I'm really looking forward to seeing something new from canon, I'll be pretty disappointed if an upgraded 5D comes along. Maybe a cheaper full frame would satisfy me.

How quickly did the price of the 5d mark 2 come down?

I want to get the new 5d but keep my mark 2 as I want two bodies to start doing some practice with in an effort to do some paid work in the future. But I was hoping for around the £2200 mark for the body only.

I can't see a new ff Canon body being below £2500, most Canon stuff is always dearer than the Nikon counterpart.

The good part Joe is that by the time it is released you will have saved up a bit more.

yeah, i do have enough saved up now to buy it at £3000 but I would struggle to jutify that, I might buy another 5d mark 2 instead then upgrade when the price comes down maybe

Those specs look like a restructuring of the canon line to me. If they are true they will be pitching the 5D3 somewhere between the D700 and D800. It does make me wonder where the 7D goes from here though. With that resolution and decent AF, the current 7D does not look a good option, especially given the average to good IQ compared to the excellent IQ of the 5DII.

Could the next 7D be a very different beast? Perhaps the new position for the 1.3x crop camera in the canon line?

Only when it comes to bodies

I think it is the other way round with almost everything else.

Canon's 35L vs Nikon's 35/1.4
Canon's 24-70 mk1 vs Nikon's 24-70
Canon's 70-200/2.8 IS vs Nikon's 70-200/2.8 VR

It'd be good if canon would announce it, I feel that many may be pushed to switch to Nikon due to the wait of a potentially new model.

sorry, but doubt that very much
a total change of lenses would also be required.

Canon's 70-200/2.8 IS vs Nikon's 70-200/2.8 VR

That was one of the reasons that made me choose Canon over Nikon, that lens prices seemed more reasonable at the top end. Canon's latest released professional lenses all seem priced pretty highly to me though.

I'll bet there'll be loads of very cheap refurbished 5DIIs at Focus this year....

Not any more though with their new versions of these lenses, flashes, grips, wireless controllers etc.... and I did write 'most'.

Oh god I hope not!

I'm already thinking about leaving my plastic at home in case I spot a good deal on a 100L Macro! :D

I'd like a 100mm Macro as well. Wonder if anyone will be doing a BOGOF :D

My thoughts exactly. 16-36mm is another thing I may be after.

They look pretty convincing I think.

Yes they do; certainly a different body from the MkII, and, although closer to the look of the 7D, not enough to simply be fake badges stuck on a 7D body. It seems improbable that someone's gone to all this trouble to create these as mock-ups for red-herring purposes, they'd be a bit loony if they had!

I was considering purchasing a MkII (for the umpteenth time!), so I think I'll wait and see if this one finally does get anounced shortly...

Judging by the delays to the 1DX is it likely there will be similar delays to the 5D?
In which case the current II will be a current camera for a good few months yet and if that's the case I can't see prices dropping much before initial price of the III drops a little.

CanonRumors is struggling tonight, since those new pics gone up.

Personally I think it looks cheap, very much along the lines of the 600D, 60D, 7D. Hopefully it will be better than it's looks

Been trying all night to open their site, just gave up.

Seems to be better now ;)

Just this minute opened after all this time :)

First impressions...not liking the finish they are applying to the bodies, they are getting coarser and coarser, I prefer a semi mat finish not a "shot blasted" finish.

As I say it looks just like the other lower spec bodies now and less like a premium model. Good job, I wouldn't be buying it anyway, OM-D for me ;)

That's probably because the recent more 'rounded' shape of Eos compact SLRs (as opposed to the gripped 1D/1Ds) first rolled out with the 7D followed by the 550D then the 60D; and now those stylings have been applied to the 5DmkIII. I guess if they'd rolled out those new design stylings starting from the 5DmkII you wouldn't have associated the look with cheapness, perhaps? :D

FWIW I think it looks <boxy and >splendid! Let's just hope it delivers the goods performance wise...

As I said it's my personal opinion and to me it looks cheap, the body looks the same as £450 body and that was not the case before. Anyway if the body was around £1700 and is a great advancement on the 5D2 it will be amazing, sadly I suspect the price will be near £3k mark.

@ ShrubMonkey: Your guess is as good as mine; I reckon they may peddle it around the £2400-2500 mark to compete with the D800. If they launch it in the next couple of months, by this time next year all the reviews will be in, the supply will be satisfying demand and the price could settle somewhere around the £1800-1900 mark. I certainly can contend with what I've got until then, No need to rush into these things, eh? ;)
