Yes
So, speculation. The 5D3. What do we think?

I'm really keen for one to come out soon, just so i can nab a 5D2 (haha)

Lol here's hoping it brings the price of the mkii down nicely!

The price of the mk2 will remain similar to what it is now and the mk3 will be over 2k i'm guessing!

The mk2 was 2.3K at launch, it's almost a grand cheaper now.......I can't see a new one falling much more tbh.

If they price the replacement as high as they usually do it can strengthen the price of the outgoing model.

A mk3 hasn't even been announced as yet, but is rumoured to be due any time.

It won't necessarily be that much better for the money when it does surface because in my opinion we are approaching the point where the "law of diminishing returns" will be evident in camera technology.

Maybe

2 weeks ago the date was 7th Feb, :D

It'll release when it's ready and it'd better be a good un because now that they've nudged the cost of the 1d out of my immediate reach it looks like i'll be going that way IF the AF is better than the old MK's. For the work I do, the ISO and frame rate and IQ are fine on the Mk2......just a shame it won't focus in dim light to get the most out of the high ISO performance.

Beats me how they can be so secretive in the development and production of newer models.

Why don't you wait until it's actually been released before expressing your opinion?

I agree, saw one the other day and it looks brilliant. I'd switch for it.

It's all in the fun of it.

In all seriousness, with uni looming I fancy a 5D2/24-105L to replace my gear. Be good to see what canon have up there sleeve too!

I'm hoping it's a hybrid of thee 1Dx and the 7D with a bit of the 5D2 thrown in for good measure. And I'm also hoping it wont cost any more than what I could sell my 4 month old 5D2 and 5 month old 7D for. I'd be happy for a 5D2 sensor, 1Dx AF and 7D fps and a new ISO setup ranging from 100-51200 or there abouts. Bring that out for around £2,000 and I'd be very tempted.

your hoping for abit much though.

why would they canibalise 3 models into 1 and offer it for less than half there top model.
with that the only reason to get a 1dx would be for a better built body and a few fps more.

im waiting to see where canon go with this but from what nikon have done i wouldnt be suprised if we get something un expected like the d800.
I wouldnt be surprised if they bring out a canon to expand on where the nikon d700 left off, as nikon seem to have gone for the 5d market.
canon with come out with a high iso cheap body.

What I need is a D700+ with EF mount. C'mon Canon, Nikon showed their hand, now you know what to play. Just do it before the D800 hits the shelves.

Canon already put out their high end video stuff (in EF and PL mount) and the Olympics gear with 1Dx, new super teles and (maybe) the 200-400 w/1.4x .. now let's see some love for the high ISO addicts who don't need a sports tog machine gun? pleaase? :)

Wonder where we would be at now without the two majors competing for sales.

It'd be good if canon would announce it, I feel that many may be pushed to switch to Nikon due to the wait of a potentially new model.

Pretty certain that the pre-order price (which was honoured) was cheaper than the actual sell price - I recall the price hiked a few weeks after it hit the shelves. I can still recall Dabs had a Boxing Day deal in 2008 for £1500 or £1600, where it was selling for elsewhere for £1900!!

I think 5D2 with better AF would be best. Yes they could make ISO better but that would need a new sensor which would be more expensive than the 5D2's. There are rumours of a 45MP 5DX and 22MP 5D3, in which case the 5D3 could well just use the old sensor which is fine by me. Makes a reasonable amount of sense as well as they've merged the 1DS and 1D lines which leaves room for a high MP camera.

Well Canonrumors thinks they've got the definite specs for 27th/28th release.

http://www.canonrumors.com/2012/02/the-next-5d-on-february-2728-2012-cr3/

22mp
61pt AF
100% VF
3.2″ LCD
Dual CF/SD Card Slots

I'd buy that for a dollar.. Wait? Price: Around $3500 USD :gag:

Well that's the same list price that the 5D2 released with in 2008 so not unexpected.

If the 6.9fps rumors hold and they squeeze in at least a stop's worth of high ISO goodness I'm probably getting one regardless of all the video features ;)

I'm in the market for a 5d Mkii - how do people feel about how this release will affect the prices?

Who knows  depends on how good/bad the Mk3 is, if they get it wrong the MK2 could be a sought after body, we will just have to wait and see:)

I'd guess the street price will be somewhat lower were as I believe Nikon have set the MRP as the minimum price for dealers for the D800.

I wouldnt be supprized if the 5D mk2 stays in production for awhile though, hopefully with a further price decrease.

This is pretty much my ideal spec for a wedding photography camera if it's correct. I wonder if the price is accurate - will have to look at my business plan and see if I can justify it! :)

There's a big thread on Canon Rumors with speculation that prices might actually go back up as they run down stock etc. I'm not convinced personally.

'They' say that about every previous body.

There are more 1D4s coming up for sale on TP & Fleabay as the 1Dx gets nearer to release. They don't look dearer than a few months ago.

People saying that the Nikon D700 may go up in price (even though it's not a direct replacement).

As Graham says I'm not convinced.
