Canon 5D3 and lens focus points

hopefully a quick easy answer from a knowledgeable person please?
I was out yesterday using my Canon 5D3, with the 100-400 Mk2 lens and a Mk3 1.4x convertor attached.
I could get single point spot, single point AF, and single point expansion fine, but unable to get the 9-block expansion or 12- block zone function.
Should those functions be available? I've tried to decipher the instruction manual, but keep returning to Pg85 and confuse myself.
All works well without the convertor fitted?
Do I have a problem with the Mk3 convertor?

It sounds like it's working correctly.....you get the centre and the assist points only (see group H diagram on page 84)

Page 85 says that, when you're using a lens + extender combination that has a maximum aperture of f/8 (as you are), the selectable modes are the same as Group H on page 84.
Page 84 says that Group H gives you only the centre spot and the four surrounding it.

You get more with a mk4, almost sounds like a rhyme :)
And a few newer cameras too possibly 7D2, 80D 1Dx (obviously) maybe some more too, havent memorised exactly what, you need to be very suspicious when the advertising blurb says 49 (or whatever number) F8 focus points as it's lens/extender specific, your lens and extender gives the best options with later bodies. My mk 1 100/400 and mk2 extender wouldnt, even with later bodies.

Thanks Matt, a very valid point.
I've read and re-read the instruction manual and it is making sense more now.
I think my lens collection is complete (fatal statement), and I'm still learning much about my Mk3.
I stepped up from a Mk2 for sports and find the autofocus a very different feature.

Tis a damn fine camera (I've got one - love it :-) )
