hey all!
I am looking to use my 5d mk1 with elinchrom studio lights anf sync cable. Is there an issue with power? As I have heard some cameras have different v?
Is it best to just stick with letting the 430 fire them?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

I should think you'd fine with that setup mate..

Im not aware of any issues with them..

Just gave it a try with sync cable. The pictures are coming out half black! Eek think its doing something to the sensor!
Have unplugged straight away and all is fine again!
Word of warning to others! Anyone know what may cause?

nothing wrong with sensor, your shutter speed is set too high;)

try setting bout 1/200 or a bit less if need be.

oh yeah, i doubt studio flash will cause you any problems with voltage, my 40d and d lites work lovely together by cable, did find when i went wireless i had to lower the shutter speed ever so slightly though

Cheers fletch but the top half of picture is fine, but bottom is black. Almost as if there is something obscurring the lens. Most strange. It happened twice. Will post example. All is fine without lead though??

yeah, the shutter is half closed when the flash goes off, and since the flash is so short, it wont last till the shutter is fully open, lower your shutter speed and it will be fine, honest

your shutter has two parts, the top bit opens, then the bottom bit comes up to pull the top bit back down to close, that is what is blocking the shot, CT described it better a while ago, but it isnt a problem with your camera

That is a classic case of having the shutter speed set too high. fletch5 is currect on this one. Use a shutter speed at 1/200 or slower.

Thanks guys!
You are the reason I love this place!!!
You are legends for taking the time to reply!

I know you have already got the answer, but just to support the comments, until recently I ran a Canon 5D Mk1 with Elinchrom lights and sync, and also only got the problem when accidentally running at too high a speed. Otherwise it works perfectly.

Thank you kind sir!
It had me mega worried! :) I was seriously scared I had done summat to my sensor!

Thanks again all.

Smoothy
