Canon 5D - new model?

Not a mrkIII,

what else does it offer, I'm not shifting from my classic till it offers a full body sandwich massage with whipped cream,

Merc:naughty:

Hope they do. I want to pick up a used 5D mark 1 really cheap :P

Watch this space!!

I am very excited about the possibility of a new 5D. I have just purchased a
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM as a christmas gift for my partner and I am blown away by the quality.

Given that the 5D mark II uses the same image sensor as the 1DS mark III, I will be very suprised if we see the 5D mark III before the 1DS mark IV.

Rumours say there will be no more 1Ds as we know. 1D mkIV is well over a year now with no sign of its big brother. Canon must be readying something radically different there... and a 1D mkV on its own.

As soon as they release 5D mkIII (late this year would fit to 3-year cycle) with 7D-class or better AF and full weather sealing they won't sell many more 1Ds as we know them. If they don't release 5D like that they may as well stuff it. They still need to match some D700 features!

Again these are only rumours... :rules:

Those are my thoughts. Some people say a 5D mkIII with 7D or better level of AF performance and weather sealing would kill sales of the 1Ds line. But they kind of have to do this now, since the D700 brought fast AF and frame rates, and the D800 is only gonna be better!

i've heard the MkIII will have the autofocus system of the 7D

i've read this in several places too, but surely a 5d with the focus system of the 7d is more or less a 1ds?

maybe as daugirdas says.... that's the problem for canon?

This would fit with Canon's apparent recent strategy of trying to match Nikon model for model (sorta!).

Gosh, this is all very interesting and exciting. I have a feeling that Canon are going to launch something very special indeed.

All your comments have made interesting reading - thank you.

So what you're suggesting is that with the launch of a 5DIII, prices of the 5DII and therefore 5DI will both fall?

Okay, as I'm saving pennies for a 5DII on the basis that I'll have to sell my 5DI as I won't need both, I shall then be able to afford the "down-valued" 5DII and it simply won't be worth selling my 5DI? :cuckoo:

But do I want the new 5DIII? Nah! New model prices are for people with credit cards burning holes in their pockets. I need to spread my spending spree more widely than that. :bang:

I hear what you are saying, however personally, I am interested in the technical upgrade/differences that the 5DIII may offer. I only purchase what I can afford to buy (without the need for a ccard). Again, it's personal choice.:)

Yes I agree, although it is only speculation at the moment. I would be an early adapter to the 5dmkIII if it came with the 7d autofocus. I think I'd drool over it.

I would seriously hope for some more focus points towards the edges. 7D system would only cover the very centre of 5D full frame.

Yeah good point actually. I didn't realise. Hopefully that should be easy enough for them to do if they do go down the 7d autofocus route.

Sounds an interesting thought

There appears to be so many conflicting rumours, Canon are obvioulsy being very, very careful about releasing any information.

So whats the answer then;)

1. Buy a new 5dmk11 now at a good price cheapest I have seen £1499 delivered
2. wait till the 5d m111 comes out then the mk11 will drop in price..
3. be so excited at the features the mk111 will have wait and buy one

Or simply keep what you got and be done with it :D

Really?? I do believe from other comments in this thread that something is in the pipeline.

According to the latest from Canon Rumours it is expected Nov-Dec 2011 and will be a higher spec (that means more expensive) than current MkII.

I personally suspect early 2012 is the likely date for release.

add another 5-6 months till price stabilises and initial bugs are fixed

Saw this today too, I suspect it could end up being a fair bit more expensive. Maybe launching with a new 24-70 MkII lens.

I herd a rumour a while ago that Canon won't be releasing a 1Ds IV and were bumping the new 5D more into that spec alongside the 1D series.

They are also planning on developing a camera with a sensor bigger than 35mm film but not as big as MF

These were rumours based on no evidence I had been informed about

Thanks Chris, however I am looking to upgrade. Maybe time to move over to the darker side - Nikon

go and sit in the corner immediately :shake:

what is it you want from your kit? what are you missing out on?
apart from 50mb raw files :D

Regarding the price of the 5D MK I, I don't think it will drop that much when the mk III comes out. Simply because you're paying the full frame tax and people really really want full-frame, I know I do!

Just like the Fuji S5, people love that thing for portrait tones and still pay quite a fair bit for it. It's got a USP that the the crop cameras don't.

That is funny  I am in the corner!!!

Looking for low light capabilities and full frame. Any suggestions welcome:help:

well, i was in calumet the other day and they have not had any news from canon whatsoever regarding a mk3... mk2 still commands good money for both sales and hire too.

so i suppose you're into 1D territory then if you're turning your nose up at the MK2? :D

i'll stick with my 5D MK1, nifty 50 (and a torch) :p

Thanks for your advice, please don't get me wrong, the 5D MK2 is awesome. I am interested in Canons' next move. :)

If low light is your priority, you could consider a D700, apparently the low light capability is better than the 5D Mark II.

I hope they do - Canon 5D MkII will be slightly cheaper as a result!!
