Canon 5D MKIII official owners/users thread, anything related to the 5D MKIII

No, that has a question mark after it, as do all those statements, they are questions.
We aren't getting it. If you look at the link I posted earlier it shows just the f/8 and clean HDMI features are added, plus the AF assist issue fix should have been included.
By the way, the post about that one is me :-)

hi dave

just the way it reads

we can but hope :-)

I'm not sure I even know what that means. Is it like a digital zoom, or using just a portion of the full sensor that will give the focal length a crop factor?
I've never read anything about Nikons so don't understand all their features

from what i have read it just uses part of the sensor and acts like a
cropped camera ??

now that would be nice

alan

Oh yes, that would indeed. I still miss not having the reach with my 70-200, having a built in x1.4 extender would be fantastic.

i can just crop on lightroom easily

Yeah, i tend to crop almost every shot i take, some quite a bit, and the 5D holds up better than my 60D, at least to my eyes.
I have trouble getting straight hand held shots a lot of the time, so they all need a bit of cropping after straightening. LR5 has been a boon with its automatic levelling function. A real time saver.

I keep contemplating the 50 and 85 1.2's.
Especially now I'm down to just a single body and no crop nowadays.

Got an Err 80 at weekend whilst out shooting. Camera less than two months old. Wouldn't completely turn off and red 'writing to card' light stayed on.

Only way to free it up was to remove battery and reload again after a few seconds. All clear after that.

Anyone with similar experience?

Took delivery of my 5D3 a couple of weeks ago, just in time for a trip to India and Nepal. What a great camera, it really seems to have got the best out of my 24-105L.

Here's a couple of my favourite shots from the trip. Be gentle, these are the first pictures I've dared to upload on this forum.:(

I had the exact same problem with my 7D not long after buying it (middle of a wedding too!!!)

I had to send it back to Canon, they replaced the main circuit board I think and it's worked perfectly ever since.

Did you buy the MK III from a UK retailer, or grey import? If the latter you might have to send it back to them in Hong Kong to fix unfortunately

Any chance you can remove the tigers? After over 17 hours in landrovers in two parks in India last December we saw only tiger tracks. Absolutely jealous!

I love this shot (and the others), very colourful.

Great camera indeed

Oops, sorry! That's a pain. :(

We were in Ranthambore and were warned we probably wouldn't see any tigers, but struck lucky with first a female sitting in a pool swatting butterflies, then her cub joined her and started biting her neck, jumping on her and generally being a pain, which made for good pics. :D There was another drive the following day, which we didnt do as we were both feeling awful with stomach cramps (Good old Dehli Belly). They saw FOUR tigers that day. I console myself with the fact that they were apparently all laying under trees in heavy shadow, so I wouldn't have got decent shots anyway.

The OE one was about 30% charged when I got it. I bought a spare via Amazon and that was 90% charged.

Deeply jealous of the 85mm by the way, gorgeous lens.

I think the best Tiger sightings in India are probably at Bandhavgarh, we spent 7 days there and had 20 sightings of 16 different beasts, however it's like all wildlife, chancy, and some people had been on 8 drives without a sighting.

I like the black faced monkey!!

Five drives in Bandhavgarh and five in Kanha with just paw prints for our trouble. Seriously disappointing but, having 'done' Masai Mara and Antarctica, we know all about not having any expectations. It's the animals which decide whether or not they will reveal themselves, not the humans who decide that they will find them. Having said that, the 'rules' in Indian tiger reserves were revised last year and they have made sightings less likely.

Now back to the 5DIII...

Camera World are giving away a free Canon battery with 5D3 purchase. Didn't help me as both were flat when I got home.. Doh!

So then - whos played with the new 1.2.1 firmware :)

Available here, I've installed it but no time to play yet to tell what really new.

I've not bricked anything yet though a firmware update but don't want to start with my new £2k camera body. Does 5d3 have a JTAG port!? Will wait for 30th April release ta :)

Not good - Shutter Error. I had exactly that before the shutter failed on my 40D
