Canon 5D MKIII official owners/users thread, anything related to the 5D MKIII

Well three months since we were burgled and all my Canon gear was taken I'm now a happy owner of a new 5D3 and 24-70 F2.8L MK2 lens.. The battery is completely flat and it can't charge quick enough :)

Am I right in thinking there's a PDF linked to somewhere on this thread detailing how to use/setup the AF? It has pictures and screen shots etc.. Looked through the first 20 pages but can't find it!

That's great thanks Dave. There's quite a few 5D articles on there to peruse which should keep me busy for the foreseeable..

Only just over a week since ive owned my 5D mk3 , and already have sensor dust! :( annoys the hell out of me!

Had mine since the 2nd week of March and it hasn't been out the house yet - let alone gather dust... :bang:

Mine must have dust on it after the weekend. I was at a gig with a massive smoke machine and there was so much crap in the air :D

Hello,

Ordered a 5D Mark III. What memory cards SD and CF. Realistically what cards do I need. I've been shooting on a 40D for what feels like forever and have a couple of 8gig Extreme III's or IV's

I was thinking of getting a couple of 32gig cards but what speed given its resolution and full HD output quality..?

I've only had mine a few weeks and I upgraded from 550d so only have extreme SD cards I plan on getting a cf card too, but to be honest the sd card works fine not had any buffer issue's

They are awkward little buggers to catch on camera, great respect to all toggers that regularly photograph small people for a career!

I always struggled with AI Focus on my 7D, just thought it was me! Sometimes it seems to work fine, other times not so fine!

Thanks Robin, I'll try that. Running towards me has always been my biggest focus failure with any kind of moving subject. When I get home from work I'll read about AF case 4 and 6 then try them out next time I get a chance.

Do you know about setting the DOF Preview button to switch over to AI Servo mode by holding it down when you're in One Shot? That's a godsend on it's own when shooting children.

Well still trying to battle my dust bunny woes!

Bought a blower which didn't budge it what so ever so now going to look at getting it cleaned :(

Ive always cleaned my own sensor's. Its really not that hard or dangerous if you take your time, and can save you a lot of money in the long run.

I use the swabs and Eclipse fluid and find this is the most effective way of getting rid of all the carp. sometimes a blower just wont shift it.

I mentioned a while back about a more 5DMKIII specific PDF. I cant find the web link so have put it in my Dropbox if anyone wants to see it.

Its a 24 page PDF, and is very similar to the 1Dx PDF most people get, but this is all 5DMKIII. It might just be a cut down version but i found it to be very useful.

Ill leave it there for a week or so.

I was just looking at some of your shots on Flickr. You've got some amazing shots there, and im very jealous of those places you have gotten to shot recently. :-)

Wow thanks for the compliment. Really appreciate it. I have added you as a contact on flickr.

No problem they are great images and its nice seeing that part of the world in such a nice way.
Ill add you as well when i get the time.

It looks like we are both looking in to flash at the moment. i'd love one of those Sekonic light meters but they are very expensive, especially compared to just taking one or two shots to get it right yourself.
Im thinking of getting a very cheap one and just trying to learn how to work out the amount of manual flash to use as until now i mostly use E-TTL, and while i think it does a good job i'd like to use manual more, and understand it more.

Dave,

where do you get the swabs n fluid from?

Sweet thanks i shall look at these for a later investment, going to get someone to clean the first time for me.

Finally took the plunge and ordered mine from MPB.

Arrived next day and now playing around .

There were 2 about the same price. Was one of those. Exc condition one! Was worried the other one didn't come with battery as wasn't listed!

That's the one I remember seeing before. That's for posting.

Thank you. I do know you can reasign buttons I've just not fiddled yet! But have set this up now :)

Whoever took that owl shot it's amazing! I went to Woburn safari park last year and got lots of blurry shots in the owl display!
