EDIT: I think they work with almost any flash. The camera treats the flash as if it was on the camera i believe.

following a link from your link! someone has a 1000D and a Metz 58 AF-1 which works fine, so looks like these are on my shopping list!!
Thanks

Cool, glad i could help.
when i upgraded from my 60D i missed off camera flash, but didnt think buying the usual Pocket wizard etc set-ups were worth it for me. When i found out about the 622's i thought it was worth a shot, and i have no complaints. I only have a very modest set up, but they work a lot better than using the OB flash like i did before.
I haven't even read the manual, just turn them on and they work.

Hi All,

Quick question, does anyone have any issues regarding off camera flash sync speeds? I seem to be getting the black bar on anything faster than 160th, when to be honest I would have at least expected 250th.

For the record I'm using YongNuo 602's to trigger, and the Canon 600 EX-RT flash.

At first I thought it might be the batteries in the triggers but the issue still exists with new ones, and I'm still geting 250th out of them on my 60D

Im not sure i have any answers but i do know the 60D has a sync speed of 1/250, whereas the 5DMKIII is 1/200, so you would need to use HSS to get it over 1/200.
As far as the black bar goes, ive never experienced this myself so cant help.
I assume everything works ok if you just use your flash on the camera. Have you tried (if its even possible) to use just one trigger to fire the flash using the built in wireless reviver in the flash, as well as using two triggers?
That 1/160th figure rings a bell but i cant remember why.

Good luck, i hope you get it figured out.

The annoyance being with the HSS that it'll only work on the Canon (and therefore more expensive) flashes as well as with the more pricey triggers.

I'll keep on testing, as you say maybe see what result I get with the slaves. Oh and yes it works fine up to 1/250th on camera.

i have a 580ex and a 270exii

i would like to be able to control flashes of camera

Ive got both the 580EXII and 270EXII. Both work well with the 622 although ive not tried adjusting them individually from the camera.

hi dave

not tried the 270exii yet only go the 622c yesterday

mine is the 580ex mk1 and i dont think it is as as compatable as the mk2
with the 622c

thats why i asked would a yn 565ex be better than the 580ex

alan

Sorry Alan, i noticed the lack of II just after i posted. Its not a flash ive used so cant comment.
I only got my 270EXII a couple of days ago, so far i really like it. Ive been using it more than my 580EXII as it doesn't make my camera too heavy and unbalanced.

From what ive read the 565ex is a fantastic flash, and probably more versatile than the 580EX

hi dave

the 270exii is great on the 5diii as you say bit lighter

the reason i ask about the 565 (no HSS)or 568 is i have the chance to sell my
580ex

That sound sounds like a plan.
I can't say I've ever thought of using AI Servo with flash, but thanks for the heads up if I do.
Actually I don't normally use AF assist with flash, although I do when using the triggers, as I'm not sure if they can be turned off (not sure I've ever tried though)

When the new FW come out next month it's supposed to fix an issue with slow AF using AF assist, although I'm not sure I've noticed a slow down.

Please excuse my ill-informed question.

What type of memory card is preferred CF or SD?

I know the 5D can take both so is it good practice to use both CF & SD? Any optimal combination recommended?

Thanks

John

There was a big discussion a little while ago. Go through the last few pages and you should find what you need :)

35mm Sigma F1.4 bought on a whim and I'm about to board a plane for 3 weeks of Shanghai, Tokyo, Kyoto and Shanghai Grand Prix.

I'll post shots up when I'm back, soooo excited!

Considering how much I love the 35mm F2 on the 5dIII I'm very torn between this sigma and the new IS version of the Canon 35mm.

Not sure which will suit my shooting style best yet, decisions!

I use the canon 35 f1.4 for low light gigs and its pin sharp.

Another vote for eneloops, they are great :)

can you do me a favour when you open your 5D?
check what firmware yours has?
Mine has version 1.1.3 straight out of the box, just wondered if this should be correct.

Sorry for the delay! Yes, it's 1.1.3 :)

I also took a subscription out with Lynda.com - it'll prove very worthwhile for me as I have so much to learn!!
