Canon 5D MKIII official owners/users thread, anything related to the 5D MKIII

Ordering a 5d3 tomorrow. Moving up from 50d. I have the 100L, 70-200 f/4L IS and the Sigma 50mm 1.4. I was going to buy the 35 1.4 but decided that 24-105 f/4L IS would be a better all rounder for me right now. I'm going to have to ditch my 10-22 and 17-55 EF-S lenses as they are EF-S.

I may well get the 35 1.4 some time in the future and use the 24-105 as a walkabout/holiday lens and use the primes when I can carry multiple lenses and have the time to change lenses (i.e. not when I am trying to manage my 3 yr twins alone at the same time!).

Does the above path make sense? Looking forward to trying it out. Wonder if I am going to have to re-learn much coming from the 50d?

You won't need to re-learn a whole lot. The new AF system will be the biggest hurdle but is overcome quickly as it's very easy to use and understand after a day or two.

Well one of my 600EX-RT's came today and the other will be here tomorrow. Also got my pixel kings this morning. Had to update them online which took all of 5 minutes and now everything is working as it should be, plenty books to read now and learn how to get the best out of all this equipment :)

What book u got? Ouch expensive flash unless u found a good price as it a flash I want

I almost got rid of my 580EXII for a 600 last month, i thought i could do away with my transmitters but realised at the least min i couldn't. I still plan on getting one at some point.

Good luck with them Derek.

Im just reading the Speedliter's Hand book by Syl Arena at the moment as im off to a wedding in May, and other than bounced flash ive never shot direct or outdoors so its a bout time i learnt.

I got them both from HDEW, for £355 each.

I got a couple of books from amazon, kindle books for my iPad, I tend to keep all my stuff on my iPad, like the PDF manuals for the 5d3 and 600ex flashes, its handy as it also automatically goes to my phone also.

The books im reading at the moment are Canon 5D Mark III experience, speedliters handbook and speedlite system digital field guide.

Yeah I just purchased the Pixel Kings off the forum the other day. I would have liked the canon ST-E3 RT but I have seriously spent more than I wanted to this month.
Thats also the book im reading, its great, ive also been told to look at hotshoe diaries also. :)

Just ordered a 5D MK III from HDEW... really can't wait for it to arrive!!! :D

Currently shoot with a 7D as my main camera and a 40D as my 2nd body... 7D will be relegated to candid shots at weddings with my 70-200mm and the 5D MK III will be my main body.

Can't wait to be shooting in dark churches at ridiculous ISO's without crazy noise! Even shooting at 3200 gives me a semi knowing how clean the images will be compared to the 7D!

Sorry! Too much information!!

My 5d3 and 24-105 f4/L arrived this morning after spending all weekend sitting in a UPS warehouse in the midlands. Happy would be a massive understatement. I am overjoyed. It doesn't seem to have made my sigma 50mm 1.4 work completely well but it is better than it was on my 50d. I am hopeful that messing with the microadjustment will have a positive effect.

The 24-105 and 5d3 are absolutely stunning though! I could never have even dreamed to take such ISO1600 shots on my 50d! So very very happy :)

Did I mention I am really happy? !!!!

I thought you were heading towards a 6D. What swayed you? I only ask because I'm currently weighing up the benefits vs extra £600

I like to add my comments for you..

I had a 6D had it 5 days it was a great camera honestly it produce some great images. I just hated the AF system on it and the points as I came from a 7D. The 5D MKIII is FANTASTIC I am glad I took the 6D back and got the 5D MKIII it is really worth the difference to me. Alone the AF is Brilliant it miles better than the 5D MKIII and it the same system as the 7D but more points of course.

Never regretted swapping it over :)

Hi mate,

Came down to the AF system in the end... couldn't find enough info on how the 6D performs with the outer AF points in low light to have enough confidence in the camera.

Looked at the extra £600 - £700 and thought it's just one extra wedding I have to get to make up the difference, and when it's looked at like that I felt I could justify the extra.

I think having had the 7D and being used to having reliable focus on pretty much all focal points the 6D might have caused frustration if it was hunting for focus too much or I was missing shots due to it struggling a bit... and like I said I couldn't find enough info out there to give me confidence in it

Just like I said we both felt the same as coming from a 7d the 6d is a downgrade in Af

Thanks for writing that mate as really has helped me feel 100% confident that I made the right choice :)

Thanks.

Yeah, the AF points look a bit cramped towards the middle of the sensor too. I was under the impression the focusing on the 6D was excellent, but hearing you both choose the 5D over the 6D suggests otherwise, I was already heading down the 5D route, but I think this has just tipped it.

As you said, a small price to pay to ensure you get the best results. Just got to wait for Panamoz to get them back in stock.

The centre point on 6d might of been about better for low light but all points were cramp the other points were slow

5d mkiii kick ass it miles better all round

Urbanclown - i am pretty sure I got their last one :) Someone posted that they were out of stuck about 5 mins after i got my quote and paid for it :) Well worth it - amazing camera and fast service. Totally happy.

Try HDEW... about £100 more but you get a proper Canon warranty + an extra 2 year HDEW one.

They were out of stock until today but have more in (that's where I just ordered mine from)

Probably. I emailed Tina to see when they would have them back in stock and it's supposed to be sometime this week.

I was considering it, but I'm planning to pay by bank transfer, so is more like £200 extra over Panamoz. I'm not sure it's worth it.

This is exactly why i bought from Panamoz. It has been a great buying experience (once i started mailing 'Tina')

5D MK III arrived this morning woohoo!!!

Shame I'm at work today and tomorrow

Got a pre-wedding shoot on Saturday though so will be giving it a proper road test then - can't wait!

Feel really chuffed that I'm now a MK III owner... is there some sort of freemason group thing with us lot where you do a special handshake once you own one? :p

Just updated my main camera on here... it felt good to type the words Canon 5D MK III

I know EXACTLY how you feel - even down to the updating your kit on the forum bit :) It's a guilty pleasure isn't it :)

Haha it sure does! Yeah now when I see a MK III owner walking past I'll be giving him a little nod now too instead of my usual jealous scowl

Had a quick test of the ISO capability... AMAZING!!!

Shot this at ISO 25600 whch lets face it my 7D couldn't even dream of going to let alone capturing something so clean!

Only modifications from SOOC are - slight contrast boost, slight colour correction, slight midtone boost in levels:

And then with some very quick NR added:
