I wouldn't see a huge benefit in changing complete systems based on just the iso difference between the 2 to be honest.

If you were upgrading from a lesser camera than the 800 I'd say maybe worth the hassle but not between those 2.

Although I haven't used the 800 myself so can only go on reviews and other people's comments.
 
Its not not just on the bodys. To be honest I love my d800 and it does preform well.

when I bought it I had been thinking hard about switching systems and still cant seem to scratch that itch. Hense why im looking for some raw samples, hopefully this would squash it for me.

One issue I have is I would like some more lenses especialy a 35 &135. Both of which cannon do very good copys of. The nikon 35 gets mixed reviews and is expensive, there 135 is prity poor by most accounts.
whether its real or not i tend to favour colourd I see produced by canon and any help with high iso would be great.

Quick question. How high do you set your auto ISO to?

As 12800 can be useable I set it to that, depending on what I'm doing.

Great shot. Love this combo.
Im getting more and more into using my 40mm with my MKIII now.
I brought a Joby Ultrafit Sling strap last week, never used a strap before as i felt too nervous, so putting the smallest lens on my camera eased me in to using the strap.
 
Just a quick one -

What do all of your shutters sound like?

The reason I ask is that I had a fiddle with my friends 5d mkiii a couple of days ago and immediately noticed how.. perculiar the shutter sounded. It was a very metallic, higher pitched clinky sound. I've never heard any shutter make a sound like this and it's just left me a bit perplexed.
 
I'd say i had the same thought when i first used mine. Your mate's sounds like mine, and this is normal. You do get used to it. Saying that i tend to shoot 90% in silent mode so its more noticeable when i come out of that mode. Not an issue really though.
 
Strange, I wonder what they've done differently with the shutter to make it sound like that.
 
The mirror is a lot bigger so the dampning is diffrent this in turn will make the shutter noise change .

One thing that's really getting on my nerves is reviewing my shots. Using the zoom on the old 5D Mark II you use the buttons on the side to zoom + and -

With the Mark III you press the zoom button and then use the top dial to zoom. Is there any way to switch back to the Mark II method as it's doing my head in....especially as I still use the Mark II too.

There doesn't seem to be much in it. The 1DX seems better at the really high ISOs, but seeing as it's £2500 more, it's just not worth the cost of changing systems.. it's not THAT much better.

No, you can't use the top buttons like on the old cameras. You can set the zoom button to automatically zoom in to where the focus point was. This makes it a one touch function for checking focus. There are other options for the zoom button as well but I find this one the most useful.

How do you do that. I only ever check the focus point anyway so that'll save me a lot.

I use to use the dial to go back and forth between shots to see which one came out sharper. How do I do that?
 
Go to the Orange menu/Spanner

2nd one from the left

then down to Custom Controls

then to the Set and choose the Magnifying glass.

So when viewing press the Set button and it will zoom to 100% (I think) however it doesn't go to the focus point, but it's a quicker way of zooming.
 
Ah cheers Dave I see now :thumbs:

Go to the last Blue menu, then down to Magnification (apx), then change that to Actual size.

So do that with the Set button combo and you should be sorted.
 
No problem Rob. Its the little things like this that makes the camera such a pleasure to use, but some of the "cool" functions are well hidden.
I think it took me at least a month to get used to pressing the Magnify button as im so used to the other way.

Been out for the last two nights trying something different.
Thanks to some fantastic clear skies and freezing conditions I came back with these.

This is the first time that I have done anything like this but thought I would share it.

Love the one at 29 seconds... what sort of settings do you use? wide aperture, high iso and shutter speed not too long so there's no trails?

edit: nevermind, just seen your exif on 500px :)

I loved my mk2 and upgraded to a mk3. OK, I still love it and find it effortless to use, but I guess the improvements don't apply much to me. Did like the extra focus points though (but my head exploded with all the AF options!). Battery life increase is obviously good, but not much improvement in the way of image quality. I still have the Mk2 and they continuously bicker with each other. I have to keep them in separate camera bags!
