I Just tried my lock button, that stops you changing the Aperture and it does not work in quick view menu. My mates comes up with a red Lock warning on his. When It's not in Quick view mode it shows L in the view screen on top.

does anyone else have this problem?

AJ johnston are based in Glasgow...in a rather old building which used to be a shipping line's I think, and are up a large number of stairs.
They used to be Canon's approved repairer in Scotland until Calumet came along, had some bits and pieces done by them and they seem ok.
My personal preference is to use Canon's own service facility at Elstree, however they aren't perfect by any means!!
George.

just reading that thread on dp ,their problems different (there's not working in anything but live view).its got to be a software bug not hardware ,id be tempted to contact canon direct and ask them if it a known issue and if there's a fix coming

just another thought what firmware are both you and your mate on ?

I've just had to use HDEW warranty. At first I was going to send it their repair in Glasgow, but asked nicely if I could use my local repair shop in Tunbridge Wells. They allowed it; I gave then the repair estimate, they approves it and sent me a cheque in the post. I paid my repairer direct.

Can I ask what repair you had done please.

Ed, if you pm me your email address, I'll send it as a PDF as I have it downloaded already.
George.

Thanks George, I believe John has posted a working link of the same one?

Yup, that's fine, I wasn't on the internet and I knew I had the pdf.
Any probs let me know!

Cheers!

Well done Nik - I never even thought to look for a specific 5Diii brochure, I just tried to rectify the broken link further up the thread.

(The two brochures are identical apart from the camera model shown on the front page.)

Dropped my 5D3 in Urinal in the Local Toilet yesterday
the good news is that after putting it in the washing machine the smell has now gone
just waiting for it to dry out now

Taken the plunge and ordered a 5d mark iii from panamoz! And while there I appeared to have unintentionally clicked on a 135mm f2 at same time! Whoops! Can't wait!

Would anyone be willing to upload some high iso raw files to a hosting site for download, preferably real life shots with people so I can have a play with them,im still getting tempted over by this. But want to see if theres really any difference compared to what I own.

What do you own now.. If it isn't a 1DX then you'd be wasting your time playing as yes there really will be a difference.

I currently use a d800.
Thats what i want to see..many think.that its not alot better at high iso. going by pictures online its hard to tell as most are jpeg or people are like your self and insist that it is due to owning one not due to actualy compairing shots.

By the look if it is slightly better but by how much is the answer.

The 5d3 is easily the most capable camera for handling noise that I have ever used but Have no experience with any Nikon camera I thought the D800 was supposed to be really excellent at handling the noise??

but my 1dmk2N noise is reasonable upto 1600 ISO and my 40D is not as good as the 1 series camera with noise
but the 5d3 just Laughs at both of them and me not being used to shooting at ISO 6400 it is quite a shock to the system suddenly getting shutter speeds with controlled noise that has never been possible to me in the past

having said all that I have heard only good things about the Nikon d800
