Canon 5D MKIII official owners/users thread, anything related to the 5D MKIII

Im going the other way. As much as i love the clean high ISO settings im finding the new narrow DOF i can get fantastic and seem to use my 50mm f/1.4 more than my other lenses.
We got a new cat yesterday, luckily it knows how to pose.

Indeed, but you've committed that cardinal sin of only having 1 eye in focus when using such a narrow DoF :nono::D

I got the opportunity to photograph some motorsport yesterday and it gave me a chance to see how the 5DMKIII would stack up against some erratically moving cars... My hit-rate was much higher than I expected!

Price down to £1885 on some sites!!!!
I wonder how much longer i can hold off before taking the plunge!
Wonder what they'll be going for come Jan next year?

I'm hoping Panamoz do a xmas special! I'll be all over it! :D

I've just posted a set of images from the Weston Beach Race.
In summary - the 5DIII did superbly. I'm not used to having so many keepers to pick from!

Nice shots guys, aren't we lucky to have such a versatile camera.

I tried my hand at some aquarium shots yesterday but struggled quite a bit. I understand what's needed, i just need to practice more.

I'm also having a mental block over one of the custom settings. I've seen lots of mention about setting the joystick for direct selection of the AF point, it's mérrit seems to be that you don't have to press the other button first. I can see how it works but if you still need to half press the metering or shutter button first then what's the point? I would have thought that having to engage the AF or metering system first, moving the AF point and then having to re engage the AF system would be more of a battery drain and not any quicker
I can see that people love this setting but can't see the advantage, at least not for me.
Please enlighten me.

No probs.. I did use an elastic band too, but it used to snap every 3/4 wedings or so, so I've nicked the wife's hair band now, works a treat :D

Hope she doesn't use any of my kit to keep her hair up

Is there anyway I can save a 7 shot bracketed HDR in one of the C settings for instant use?

I've read the manual, but it doesn't really explain it very easily?

Yes

I did this set the program mode to av select a f no select an iso make sure you set the brackets to 7 and not switch off automatically then in menu you want the spanner page 4 custom shooting / register settings choose c1 - c3 after that if you turn the dial to say c1 it should be set for 7 bracket sets.

Only thing remember when you use it to check is f stop ok for scene and iso high enough for the slowest shutter speed

Thanks for that.

Is there anyway you can set just the 7 brackets to a C dial & be able to change the other settings on the fly?

Yes I would say so on mine once I switch to a custom function all settings can be changed except the A/V part if you did think you may want manuel while I have not tried on mine I think it will do it. Manuel set for me would just use a different custom function.

Canon USA Press Release

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., October 23, 2012 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced a new firmware update for the EOS 5D Mark III Digital SLR camera that significantly improves the camera's performance and usability. In response to requests from professionals working in the fields of cinema and television production, the firmware update enables the use of uncompressed HDMI Output support, making possible more efficient video editing and monitoring procedures. Additionally, the upgrade supports the advanced needs of photographers through improved AF performance when capturing still images.

Uncompressed HDMI Output Support
When shooting video, HDMI Output makes possible the recording of high-definition uncompressed video data (YCbCr 4:2:2, 8 bit) from the EOS 5D Mark III to an external recorder via the camera's HDMI terminal. This, in turn, facilitates the editing of video data with minimal image degradation for greater on-site workflow efficiency during motion picture and video productions. Additionally, video being captured can be displayed on an external monitor, enabling real-time, on-site monitoring of high-definition video during shooting.

Improved AF Functionality
Even when the EOS 5D Mark III is equipped with an extender and lens making possible a maximum aperture of f/8, the firmware update supports AF employing the camera's central cross-type points (currently compatible with maximum apertures up to f/5.6). Accordingly, the update will allow users to take advantage of AF when shooting distant subjects, benefitting sports and nature photographers, particularly when using telephoto lenses.

The new firmware update will be available, at no charge, in April 2013 from the Canon U.S.A. website and can be downloaded by end users or through Canon Factory Service Centers.

Well there's nothing like a bit of advanced warning... April 2013? :)

That'll be handy!
Hope it also has the red AF confirmation tweak from the similar 1DX firmware update.

Ive been a bit confused about this red light thing. What is it that we are missing? Is it to keep the AF box lit up until the shot has been taken or something else?

Fantastic service from Panamoz..Ordered on Wednesday and all kit arrived before midday on Monday. 5D3, BGE11, 4x LPE6 & 2x 600EXRT....All for £2k8 inclusive and 1 year Panamoz warranty on everything....Outstanding ! Just need to set it up like my IDMKIV lol

Yep my 5D mkIII arrived this morning, dispatched 7am (Hong Kong time) on Monday, arrived 12.30 today, slightly alarmed that there wasn't any padding between the 5D box, and its box, but a quick test and the 5D mkIII looks fine.
