Canon 5D MKIII official owners/users thread, anything related to the 5D MKIII

Potential owners asking questions?

Nothing more than the usual thread drift.

Same questions about pricing over again though.
Every couple of days half a dozen people asking about prices and warranties that clearly haven't read the thread to find exact answers.
Isn't that what a shopping section is about?
I must be the only one that finds it tedious so I'll leave you all to it.

a work colleague has offered to buy my 600D (and a couple of lenses, accessories et.) ... for a price i cant refuse! ... very near to the price i've paid for everything over the last 12+ months....
i am trying to fight the urge to buy a 5DIII, i would love to take my hobby to the next level ...although i have done a few courses in the past that i have found extremely helpful and i've learned so much from each one, i feel a bit guilty about purchasing such an awsome piece of kit! ... am i being foolish making such a big step up?
...please feel free to give me advice .. push me in either direction,,,
my prefered interest is in the street, urbex, and landscape photography and i've seen jaw dropping shots taken with the 5DIII

Help

should i or should'nt i

Hi Mark

Wow that's a do you want one kind of point full frame versus crop need EF lens not EFs.

Would i feel guilty nope not if i wanted it but it is way more money perhaps, to get fully up and running.

If you bought and never liked you could always sell though.

Allan :)

missus wanted me to take a pic of my son sleeping last night, no need to switch the light on, nor the flash, cranked it up to 12,800 ISO, and voila! I love it!

Correction ISO25,600

WB correction, and a bit of noise reduction... just thought I'd demonstrate the high ISO capabilities of this camera :D

This thread needs more pictures!

Here's one taken last weekend with the 135mm f2.0.
The focussing and I were struggling a bit coping with the stupidly shallow DoF, but the results were exactly what I was hoping for!
Looking at 100%, the face is pin sharp but his knuckles and the tail are slightly soft - no way I'd have got this shot with my 5DII.

Oooo now I wish I'd got that lens. That's very nice!

I've just ordered a Black rapid rs5 as I'm fed up of hearing how good they are :D

thanks! .... i want it, and its something that i will use for the next 5 years+ so i'm very very tempted to hop over to PANAMOZ ... sorry did i mention PANAMOZ again ;)
and get it ordered along with the 24-105

Hi

Who can argue with that many years ago I loved motorcycles I had a 50cc went to dealer asked to buy a 750cc he talked me out so I bought a 350cc. Hated that bike sold it got the 750 morale if you really know you fancy the 5D3 go for it.

Take a bit of getting used to but you have five years.

Allan

Ha, that's pretty much my reasoning. I went from the 60D to the 5dmk3. I had to think long and hard about it, and decided that a wee loan would get me the lenses I want, some additional cards and a camera format I've been lusting after since the 5dmk2 came out. Now I have a few years to improve, whilst saving for the 135 and 70-200mkII :D

quality stays long after price is forgotten!!!

i'm 90% there so gonna sleep on it!... my mate will get my 600D and crop lenses and i will swap it for the 5D3 (the wife wont find out cos camera's all look the same to her ;)

 .. just need to to the fedex geezer before she does next week!

I suppose I did title this thread with "Anything" but I have to agree, it did go off onto a purchasing thread more than an actual thread to talk settings and images etc.

Ok here's a few. Some have been posted elsewhere

I find that such high ISOs show pink hue on the corners depending on how warmed up the camera is. If it's the first few thos then the pink is well controlled but if it's been used a bit that session then the pink is brighter.

Depending on the scene this can be controlled in LR or PS though so no big deal.

I can see the pink in the example above especially lower left.

Thats insane, how dark was 'dark'?

I had to focus on a contrasty bit like his vest against his skin, otherwise it wouldn't forcus, so it was DARK...

It was night time, he had black out blinds, and it was only the landing light outside the bedroom that was lighting the room.

Maybe a better way to describe it.... I wouldn't be able to read a book to him in that darkness.

This is a much more interesting thread than the one on POTN. That's mainly just people posting pictures without any real conversation.

It might help us to appreciate just how dark it was by posting the aperture and shutter speed used as well. I've seen some early 5d3 shots on POTN where people used high iso yet were shooting at, for example, f4 and 1/100.

Yh that's true...but seeing the pics is good too! I think going back and forth from POTN to here gives us the best of both worlds! :D

Poor lad. Dad sold all the furniture to buy his new camera :). Great capabilities of it though.

The two images I've posted into this thread are both images I don't think I could have captured with the 5dII, so ought to be of interest? :)

Here's a couple more definitely falling into that category.
Taken at the same Soap Box Derby as the last image (red arrow soap box). This cart had already crashed a couple of times and I'd taken a few shots on the approach and was preparing to photograph a potential crash on the next corner (bad camber), but the blasted cart crashed right next to me. I had my finger on the shutter button before I even got my eye to the camera.
6 of the 7 shots have the driver pin sharp at f2.0 !!!!!!!
That's blimmin amazin :D

Anyway, here's two of the seven.
First, the cart bounced high coming down on top of him.

After bouncing off him, the cart caught his leg.

Nothing broken, just lots of bruises.....

LOL... there's no furniture in his room, he's so busy, we're afraid he'll pull drawers onto himself, and climb up them etc... going to wait til he gets a bit older :D

I think that's great advert for the 5D3+135L combo! :D

If you are looking for shots that couldn't be gotten on the mark 2 then look no further than my swing shots below:

9R4C2002 by JoeBoyMan, on Flickr

thats at 1.6 85mm.

this next one is on the 135 at f/2

9R4C9207 by JoeBoyMan, on Flickr

now, it's not so much that I couldn't have got these at all on the mark 2, I could, and do have ones like them, but they were maybe 1 shot out of 10, whereas thre mark 3 is more like 9 shots out of 10 the focus trcking is that good.

With the mark 2 I tended to shoot swing shots from the side because I could lock focus and not have to track it, but with the mark 3 I have no fear shooting head on with a child swinging at full speed

^^^ Great shots - particularly #2. Was the first shot using the Sigma 85 or 85L?

sigma 85mm. even with the amazing focussing of the mark 3 i don't think it could shift the keg to focus that fast on a moving swing

Yh I was gonna say that was even more impressive if it was the L! :D That Sigma looks great though!
