Canon 5D MKIII official owners/users thread, anything related to the 5D MKIII

Which = :bonk:

Followed with :bang:

I for one won't be wasting money on silly priced Compact Flash or SD cards, there really isn't any need.

I'm getting a 32gb x400 Transcend as my main CF card to go along with the 2x 16gb x133 cards I already own. The x400 card wil be my main card for going on holiday or if I'm shooting motorsport/hillclimbs fast paced events and the SD card will go in when I'm away travelling where a backup card is a must.

I can see why people are frustrated, but it's easy enough to work around if you just accept the limitation and work around it.

I bet your hands are still shaking after maxing the credit card :D

The best offer currently is around £2.5k for the kit inc 24-105mm, but via Bank Transfer :(:(

The fluctuations in memory prices and deals from suppliers can sometimes makes it worthwhile hanging on for a dip in the price.

At the beginning of week I picked up a twin pack of Sandisk 16GB Extreme CF 90MB/s for £54.99. By the end of the week the prices had shot up again.

I picked up the 128GB Sandisk SDXC card for my cam when purchasing it. Was £130 or something, seemed a fair price for the amount of storage available and sheer speed of the thing!

Are they meant to be faster than the cf cards?

Depends on the CF card I guess. A Lexar 1000x would be pretty hard to beat :p I've not seen any problems with performance though but I do wnat to make use of the dual card slots on this thing and will be buying a fast CF (likely the above) at some point.

UDMA mode 5 so probably about the same as the SDXC although I've not seen any comparisons of a UDMA mode 5 yet.

Not in a 5d3
the UHS standard is not supported as yet with the 5d3 which in real terms means the cards will work but at a reduced rate which kind of negates the need to buy a fast SD Card for this camera

like I mentioned in an earlier post if you want to eek out some extra performance out of the 5D3 get the 1000x Lexar it is so fast that the camera actually shoots 26 full frame raw images before it stops with a full buffer
with slower cards such as 400x cards the buffer is full quicker as the card is much slower
the difference is also evident for clearing the buffer with the 1000x lexar

from a full buffer to the light going off 5 seconds
that is a full 26 frames in 5 secs

none of my other cards can get anywhere near that - the 600x 400x ducati extremes all take around 15 seconds although have only timed one of them properly

but the simple fact is that the Lexar utterly destroys all the others I have in this camera performance wise

Oh I'm aware of that yeah^^ The post was in relation to a comparison I saw on youtube with other sdhc vs CF cards.

The downside to that is that my 128G SD card in the camera is 45mb/s, so wouldn't be money wasted no the 1000x cards for me.

your 45mb card will work at about 20mb in the 5d3 and yes whatever card you put alongside an SD card is going to be throttled
the obvious anaswer is if you want pure speed is use them separatly

obviously know one would need a 1000x card for weddings and Landscapes

but sports photographers who need a big buffer and need it clearing as fast as possible

for some unknown reason they have throttled the SD card and the CF cards have full UDMA 7 functionality and with the fast cards it is very very fast

I have a couple of 16gb sandisk extreme SD cards but they are complete slow coach stuff so only use them for general togging which they are fine for

Well, for me the back up feature is more important than 26 shots burst.

with the 60mb/s and 45/mb/s in each i can get about 12 shots before the buffer gets full which is enough for most things in a wedding.

Oh, shot a wedding over the weekend with dual 5D3, was blissful !

I even had a 5D2 with a T/S on permanently as a Tilt Shift camera for the icing on top!

Lovely pics as ever Ray.

The last one does it for me, purely down to the old man attempting a cheeky grab ;)

lol oh yeah :D

I do like those T&S lens effects. How long does it take to get used to it, and learning how to use it? I've never watched any tutorials or seen anyone ever mention it. In fact the only other person I've seen mention them is a photographer in my town, years ago :D

I want one, but don't need one!

Although for videography it might be rather spiffing. Not seen one being used in videos before either.

I was from a 450d.. Yeah, it makes sense, rather than upgrading slightly, then wanting more. I was going to go for a 5d2,but misses convinced me to get what i really wanted... I love my wife! :D

I love your wife :lol::lol:

loving the 5d so far. cracking camera. got a few questions actually in terms of the AF system

Can you create your own preset profile? i know you can change from different profiles already set up in the camera like "erratic moving subjects" but is it possible to create your own?

Also, in terms of BBF, can u actually use the joystick to not only manually select a AF point, but when you press it, It locks focus like a BBF?

Anyone here gone from nikon to the 5dmk3 ?? If so how have they found it.

I used to have a D70s and my friends shoot with a D800 which I use from time to time. If you know both systems it's not an issue. The 5D feels better and heavier than the D800 though. Pro Nikon bodies don't age well compared to Canon.

here is a ISO 25600 shot in my room in basically total dark room with just a tiny lampshade on its mimimum setting

no pp done on it. Probably a poor example as the exposer should be stopped down a stop or two because from the naked eye, it was about a stop or two darker lol.

focused brilliantly as well on such a poor lite room!

some random street shots below in the middle of the day. i took some shots of moving cyclist tetsing teh af ai servio and it locked on no problem. i could not post them because they have number plates visible on some of teh cars behind the cyclist and i am too lazy to edit it out at the moment(literelly just did a quick PP 5mins ago on these shots)

You can post them, no need to remove number plates, they are cars out in public ;)

Some nice shots, there, really impressed by the high ISO handling!

First Urbex with the 5D tomorrow, going to get some vast interiors of a power station and collision chambers :D

My favourite shot taken with the trusty III this week....

What's the cheapest and reliable place to buy cf cards and eye fi sd card? I need it to be delivered before next Friday

I think Amazon will be the best bet for the Eye-Fi card and probably not a bad place to start looking for a CF card either. Unfortunately prices seem to be on the rise for the Eye-Fi. A couple of weeks ago it was ~£54 for the Pro-X2 fulfilled by Amazon.
