Canon 5D MKIII official owners/users thread, anything related to the 5D MKIII

This is where I got mine from. I was very pleased with their service and price .
I registered the camera with Canon UK on the day it was delivered.

Did you receive an acknowledgement from Canon UK confirming registration ? Simply Electronics are not a UK retailer, they are Hong Kong retailer and as such the body is a grey import which is not covered by Canon UK warranty terms, only grey imported glass is covered not bodies.

Has anybody purchased a grey camera or lens and had trouble with it within the first year?

I did with my old 7D - hot spots and had to have it replaced (after a long battle with Digital Rev - eBay branch)

I bought the Canon 1ds3 from SE 4 years ago. There was a warranty issue with it within 5 months. It was repaired by Canon UK without any issues.

As for confirming. It was through the web site and as far as I'm concerned it's registered as there were no issues:shrug:

Mine registered fine with canon (camera from DigiRev)

Well I have just registered mine which was bought from Panamoz, another Hong Kong exporter and confirmed the details, but that in my opinion does not confirm it is covered by a UK warranty, I simply had to state the serial no. and when it was purchased, not where it was bought, I would expect if I attempted to claim they would simply check the serial number to confirm whether or not it is uk stock.

It has always been a fact confirmed on here that grey imports of Canon bodies are not covered under UK warranty terms.

In my opinion all that will be gained is possibly information direct from Canon should there be any firmware updates or any other info related to the 5D MK3, certainly not warranty cover.

just saw a 5D mkiii sell for £2,406 with a 24-105mm IS
mmmm think this is fake
they have owned it for 4 months and say its still sealed

Considering you can get a grey import with lens for 2500-2600 new ,I'd say it's about right

So I took my first ISO 25600 shots today inside a submarine.. result was pretty much what I expected - loads of chroma noise:

What I didn't expect was how well it cleaned up in LR4 with minimal work!

My 7D pictures never cleaned up this good

Hi

The Cf Card Is Sandisk 32GB 60 MB/s the SD card is Ultima Pro 16GB 20 MB/s

Cheers

Allan

Just tried with a Sandisk 60mb/s Cf and a 45mb/s SD card

with both shooting RAW, it hit about 16 shots before buffer gets full.

Strangely, CF RAW/ SD mRAW it stops after 7 shots.....:cuckoo:

not aloud
wife wont let me EVER :(

Thing is don't tell her will she ever know vbg re the used one seems cheap a used 24-105 will maybe fetch £600 so £1800 for the body it might be true if they got it as a grey but maybe you could collect it and satisfy yourself its true.

I bought mine grey first time i have not supported a Uk dealer however £800 saved in my case was a good deal unlike some my charger is a non uk standard model other than that i can see tell no difference at all.

It registered on Canon site and has a CPS extended 3 Year waranty talk it over with the missus over her a nice trip out if you save on a grey import.

You will love the AF man it looks fast love it. I used mine at a fair ground locks on very well.

she knows my cameras and what they look like
then :bat:

If that's just a single exposure then there's a pretty good dynamic range going on.

Ah a filter was on! It did seem a little too much DR lol Cracking shot though, the colours really bring this one out.

Another EF 70 - 200mm f/2.8 L MKII image from the Zoo. Also trying out Nik SEP 2.

I am getting the feeling that my 5D3 is sometimes under-exposing by about a half stop when shooting in Av mode with evaluative metering. This compared to my gut feeling coming from a 5D.

Anyone else see this or am I imagining things?

I know what you mean. It's different rather than under exposing. Evaluative metering on the mk3 has a bias to the selected focus point. A find a bit of EC is necessary more often than the mk2.

Can people have a quick look if they get the chance and see if the same thing is happening to them,

I set the camera to AV, top wheel controls aperture value and rear wheel is for EC, obviously. All is good until I hit the play button and review my images. If I press the play button again so I can re start shooting it wont let me dial in any compensation until I've half pressed the shutter. Not the end of the world but it has caught me out a couple of times and it's a bit of an annoying bug. Anyone else the same or have I set something wrong in the camera?

Although it would be better to be spot on I would personally prefer it to be underexposing 1/2 a stop than overexposing 1/2 a stop! :)

You may be better off exiting the playback screen simply by half-pressing the shutter... That's what I tend to do and it works well enough. :)

I've started doing that but it does still catch me out now and again

woohoo!!! mine is on order, im going away for the weekend or i wouldnt be sleeping at all. should be with me sometime next week! also purchased a 70-200 IS mk1 so cant wait to try out this combination!

I've got a couple of accesories for mine..the 40mm pancake lens and a Yongnuo flash.

Anyone used a flash on the Mk3 in really bad indoor lighting?
If so any tips appreciated?
