Hello everyone
I am new here and this is my first post.
I have a Canon 5D mk3 and I find it very noisy at low ISO. I am not sure if it’s me or the camera but at ISO 100 I find it to noisy even if the settings are wrong. This is a jpeg export from lightroom unedited.
Thank you.

Hi,

I bet the foreground was almost pitch dark and all you have done is lighten it which would then just show up noise on any camera ;)

Mike.

Thanks for your reply.
The camera is new and the image was a little underexposed and I tried to correct it.
Should there be so much noise when recovering detail from dark areas?

When I said in the original post 'unedited' I meant no noise reduction applied.

Do you have 'Highlight Tone Priority' enabled?

If so any attempt to recover detail in the shadows will result in some pretty bad noise

When I made this pictures the camera was about two days old and I am not sure about 'Highlight Tone Priority' being on or off. I just want to make sure that nothing is wrong with the camera and it's me.

Looking at the full size jpeg, that does look very typical of a file where shadows have been recovered with highlight tone priority enabled.

I'm blown away by how much detail there is in the shadows compared to the amount of noise, they were severely underexposed but after playing for less than a minute there's so much potential even in the shadows, heck even in the completely black trees there's an acceptable amount of noise I think, even viewed at 100%.

Just to mention, this photo could have been gotten without the noise using exposure bracketing and a tripod, then stitching the sky onto the properly exposed base, or by using some HDR method to combine them.
